    Brief Description


    Job Summary:
    Manage large capital projects, including construction projects. Ensure projects are successfully executed on time and at the lowest cost possible while meeting business needs. Participate with Engineering and Operations management in the development and execution of initiatives to meet Sabert's business growth requirements.

    Essential Duties

    Project Management

    Establish project scope, key deliverables, budget and schedule estimates for all major projects (i.e. pulp production facility)
    Determine infrastructure/equipment layouts, building layouts and space preparation as required
    Identify, select and negotiate with key contractors on all key projects; select appropriate construction manager as needed for large construction projects
    Establish major equipment comparison data for target suppliers, with capability analysis and selection criteria for capital projects
    Coordinate equipment specifications, identification of potential suppliers, preparation of RFQ's and release for quotation
    Manage total project cost and schedule to confirmed plan
    Manage flow of communication to key stakeholders to provide status updates and ensure timely issue resolution
    Manage project engineering staff, including plant coordinators, to ensure on-time, on or below budget completion of all capital projects
    Ensure delivery of training for appropriate personnel on new equipment or processes
    Develop and prepare a project scorecard of schedule, budget and performance specs for all major projects; review for "lessons learned"

    Capital Planning Support

    Participate in development of annual capital budget to support the business plan
    Prepare Capital Authorization Requests (CAR) when required with effective project explanation, justification, project timeline and ROI calculation; prepare detailed presentation of CAR to management for approval
    Support the maintenance of the overall engineering project schedule and review on a periodic basis to ensure all projects are kept on schedule
    Develop ongoing project management staffing requirements to support long-term corporate business and growth plans

    Site Selection and Project Planning

    Assist in identification of locations as required for start-ups and related construction projects
    Participate with local government authorities to assist in securing attractive tax and related financial arrangements, as needed
    Assist in evaluation of staffing costs and sources of labor

    General

    Handle other projects or duties as assigned

    Required Knowledge And Skills

    Strong project management skills; excellent organizational skills with ability to focus on details.
    Demonstrated skills in the design and execution of large and complex capital projects, including equipment installations
    Demonstrated use of effective documentation for schedule and budget management
    Knowledge of construction management and manufacturing environments including current compliance requirements for safety
    Effective communication and team building skills to enhance project coordination
    Ability to organize and lead teams
    Strong negotiation skills; ability to push for positive resolutions to achieve end results
    Logical and creative thinker; excellent problem solving skills
    Ability to travel, including extended trips as needed

    Required Education And Experience

    BS Degree in Mechanical Engineering / other Engineering or a related field
    10+ years experience in working on or leading large engineering projects
    Prior experience in leading large and complex projects
    Prior experience working on start-ups or significant plant expansions
    International experience preferred
