    Description

    Engineering Manager, LDLS

    The Engineering Manager for Energetiq's Laser-Driven Light Source (LDLSTM) business unit is responsible for all engineering activities during new product introduction for the LDLS product line. The Engineering Manager leads and develops a team of multidisciplinary design engineers to achieve project objectives and maintain the entrepreneurial atmosphere necessary to capitalize on customer and market opportunities.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Manage all engineering activities of the engineering team in a matrix management environment within the LDLS Engineering department including risk management, design, development, testing, transition to production, and production support
    • Develop and assess the performance of the engineering team,
    • Ensure compliance to company policies, including the NPDI stage gate process,
    • Work closely with product managers to gather customer requirements and develop project initiation documents,
    • Partner with R&D Scientist to reduce new technology to practice,
    • Collaborate with Sales, Marketing, Quality, Procurement, and Manufacturing organizations to ensure that the needs of all stakeholders are satisfied in the development process,
    • Support Project Management by activities such as work breakdown, cost estimation, resource planning, risk management, progress monitoring, and team motivation,
    • Articulate goals, roles and responsibilities, assumptions, and expectations to cross-functional extended project teams, internal resources, and consultants,
    • Work to proactively remove project obstacles, identify and manage issue escalations, and provide support to teams balancing competing priorities,
    • Communicate technical and project information effectively to stakeholders (including communication with customers for new business or support activity),
    • Act as an individual contributor when appropriate based on area of technical expertise,
    • Develop and maintain relationships with consultants as needed to fill capability gaps or expand resource capacity as needed.

    Qualifications & Skills

    • Minimum Bachelor's degree in applicable field such as Mechanical, Electrical, or Optical Engineering (Masters preferred),
    • 5+ years of hands-on design engineering experience (individual contributor),
    • 1+ years experience managing product development,
    • Technical proficiency in one or more of the following areas: Laser, Plasma, Optical, Electrical, Mechanical (including thermal), and/or Software/Firmware Engineering,
    • Skilled in several of the following competencies: Requirements Engineering/Analysis, Engineering Analysis (including Risk), Effort and Material Cost Estimation, Design Tolerancing and Optimization, Mathematical Analysis, Modeling (CAD and/or other), Product Design, Prototyping, Project Management (Stage-Gate), Design Reviews, Engineering Management (including matrix management), Performance Reviews, Supplier Selection/Management, Project Prioritization, Communication (including presenting technical information to internal and external stakeholders), Problem Solving, Conflict Resolution, Quality Assurance Processes, Design for Reliability, Design for Manufacturability, Standard Office SW/tools.
