Job Overview
This is a full-time, on-site Tax Manager role located in Concord, CA. Tax Manager is a key player and has a direct impact on Swinerton's successful tax operations. Tax Manager will report to Director of Tax and will supervise Tax Analyst.
In addition to exceptional organizational skills and the ability to understand and apply tax regulations, Tax Manager must build relationships to work with cross-functional teams.
Tax Manager position responsibilities will include –Assisting in the preparation of federal and state income tax returns (we have filings in over 40 states)
Assisting in the efficient and accurate preparation of the income tax provision for financial statement purposes.
Preparing various schedules regarding tax planning including projected effective tax rates and other forecasting.
Oversee and ensure Company tax compliance regarding sales and use tax, franchise tax, and local taxes.
Acting as the knowledge base for state and local tax regulations as they relate to ongoing projects (this will include leading the research initiatives for multi-state tax laws, available tax credits and deductions).
Staying up-to-date on upcoming tax pronouncements regarding policy changes and providing guidance to management on the implications to the Company.
Partnering with our third-party CPA firms on different applicable tax projects.Identifying opportunities to improve the Company's overall tax function, including optimizing current processes and technologies by researching new software platforms available.
Interfacing with the various tax authorities and leading the tax audits across the Company.Providing mentorship and guidance to Tax Analyst.
Assisting Director of Tax to manage the tax department as assigned.
Leading and supporting special tax projects as assigned.
Tax Manager – Qualifications (Required)
Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance or similar concentration
Working knowledge of federal and multi-state income tax compliance and corporate tax knowledge
Minimum 5 years of prior experience working in a public accounting firm (tax focus) or corporate tax department
Strong researching skills
Self-starter who can add value (there is a lot of opportunity here to make this role your own)
Ability to collaborate and lead tax discussions with other departments (you'll be working closely with the Project Accountants and Project Managers who won't have the same tax exposure that you do so clear communication is key)
Tax Manager – Qualifications (Not Required)
Master's Degree in Taxation, Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or similar licensing is a plus
Prior work experience in the construction industry
Exposure to / knowledge of US taxation of foreign operations, federal and state tax credits (including R&D)
