    Description

    Position Focus:

    Plan and participate in the recruitment, selection, and enrollment of applicants to the Yale School of Management (Yale SOM) MBA Program, with a particular focus on evaluation and special populations. The Associate Director (AD) works collaboratively with other SOM departments to ensure comprehensive and integrated delivery of the school's mission. Reports to the Senior Associate Director of Admissions (Data and Evaluation).

    Review and evaluate applications to the MBA program and present candidates to the other members of the Admissions Committee. Contribute informed opinions with regard to applicants' final decisions. Interview and provide guidance and counseling to prospective students. Represent Yale SOM by speaking at online and in-person events and interacting with prospective applicants and admitted students.

    Manage and direct the overall efforts of the Admissions Office as they relate to a specific substantive coverage area: evaluation support and special populations. Develop new and proactive ideas/programs for this area, assess for integration with the office's overall strategy, and determine and identify appropriate staff participation for implementation and ongoing management of new programs.

    Support development of application content and evaluation tools, being responsive to the priorities of the school and trends within the industry. Collaborate with the Operations team to translate priorities and insights into the application form and overall process. Resolve reader issues, conducting regular reviews of and updates to application-oriented materials and resources, and managing the academic/employment verification process.

    Support implementation of policies related to applications and enrollment. Manage the admissions waitlist, acting as the primary point of contact for waitlisted candidates and as the key member of the Admissions Office for the evaluation of waitlisted candidates.

    Maintain specialized knowledge and support evaluation for special populations such as Silver Scholars, joint degree candidates, military candidates, and waitlisted candidates. Work closely and collaboratively with members of the recruiting team, other constituents at SOM (including faculty, CDO, and AASL), as well as colleagues across Yale, to devise and implement these strategies.

    Collect relevant admissions statistics and build reporting tools for special populations, to enable effective and efficient monitoring within an application season, analysis across application seasons, and ongoing reporting to key internal constituents and external stakeholders.

    May supervise the daily activities of full-time and casual C&T staff and coordinate work with other M&P staff as they relate to the specific substantive coverage area. Design and implement innovative projects based on the needs of the admissions office. May be assigned to serve on key committees and to other projects or initiatives.

    Essential Duties

    1. Evaluates all admissions applications, interviews prospective applicants, and independently assesses each application against a variety of factors, including the applicant's strength, weaknesses and potential contribution to the Yale community. Determines applicant's standing within local, national and international applicant pools. 2. Analyzes and independently assesses overall records to determine if applicants are appropriate for admissions committee review. 3. Presents applicant recommendations to admissions committee. Briefs admissions committee about applicants and about schools and geographical regions as they relate to evaluation of applicant files. Determines which applicants will be waitlisted. 4. Develops public presentations designed to promote Yale to prospective applicants. 5. Provides guidance and counseling to prospective students. 6. Coordinates alumni recruiting activities in assigned geographical areas. 7. Serves as a liaison with organizations and individuals involved in the admissions process. 8. Plans and drives recruiting and yield events and engages in corporate outreach with key industries and key partners. 9. Works collaboratively with colleagues within the school and across Yale, as well as other key constituents, to develop and implement strategies related to relevant geographical regions and professional industries. 10. Manages admissions efforts as they relate to a particular substantive area such as diversity, communications, recruiting, operations, and technology. Provides strategic vision as it relates to this area. Compiles key admissions data, analyzes trends and outcomes, and recommends new approaches and strategies. 11. May perform other duties assigned.

    Required Education and Experience

    Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field and four years of experience in a related area or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

    Ability to initiate programmatic and individual activities while functioning in a team setting. Ability to handle multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.

    Strong analytical and technical skills, including ability to work with advanced MS Office, complex databases, and spreadsheets.

    Preferred Education, Experience and Skills:

    MBA or other advanced degree. Four years of experience in higher education or a field consistent with career paths of management students. Demonstrated Slate (Technolutions) experience.
