Main Purpose of Role:

This role is part of Léman Manhattan's vibrant, collaborative learning community, which delivers an engaging and academically rigorous program for all students.

Key Responsibilities:

(The primary tasks, functions and deliverables of the role)

  • Develops and implements library policies and procedures
  • Promotes reading and a love of literature in the School community in general
  • Develops and proposes annual expense budget inclusive of all subscription databases, projected book expenditures, supplies, equipment and furnishings (manage library expenditures)
  • Upholds high standards for academic integrity and delivers instruction and materials that build awareness and adherence to the tenets of digital citizenship
  • Guides departmental efforts toward the adoption and implementation of Information literacy skills scope & sequence as combined with tech skills scope & sequence
  • Acts as a liaison between the school and educational institutions (museums, archives, public libraries, university libraries), in aid of research support
  • Facilitates the research process through individual 1:1 conferences with students
  • Works with teachers and other educators to build and strengthen connections between student research needs, curricular content, learning outcomes, information resources in a safe, flexible, and conducive to student learning environment
  • Participates in curriculum development to design and teach engaging learning experiences, incorporating multiple literacies, fostering critical thinking, and promoting a love reading
  • Participates as an active member of the Library/EdTech Vertical Team
  • Implements practices that allow for smooth, user-friendly access to print and digital resources
  • Collaborates with the Director of Educational Technology to provide tech training workshops for students and faculty
  • Creates book displays and bulletin boards to promote library resources, reading, and learning
  • Creates book lists to promote extra-curricular reading, including maintaining the personal reading list program
  • Meets with English teachers to advise and support required reading for curricular and summer book selection
  • Ensures equitable access and selects materials that represent diverse perspectives and needs of students, faculty, staff, and Léman Community
  • Updates, maintains, and promotes use of Upper School library page and manages Follett Destiny catalog
  • Curates, organizes, and promotes use of digital info. resources and database subscriptions
  • Selects, purchases, catalogs, and processes all print, electronic books, and periodicals (curated to correspond to curriculum, international mindedness, independent reading, and student interests)
  • Facilitates the research process through individual 1:1 conferences with students, including collaborating with ELA teachers and teachers of the grade 10 Research and Writing class
  • Serves as the IB Extended Essay (EE) Coordinator
  • Utilizes learning management and student information systems provided by the school
  • Presents a positive role model for students that supports the mission of the school; demonstrates behavior that is professional as identified in Employee Handbook (inside and outside of school)
  • Researches and attends professional development opportunities and continues to grow professional by reading professional publications and participating in professional organizations to stay abreast of best practices, trends in school librarianship, and shifts in library technology
  • Demonstrates flexibility and a positive attitude toward new challenges and growth opportunities
  • Participates in school-wide events; attends during and after-school functions in support of school community
  • Completes a minimum of two duties as assigned by Division Head (number of duties may vary depending on role)
  • Attends and participates in all required faculty and staff meetings and serves on school committees as required
  • Completes responsibilities as assigned by Division Head based on student and school needs (e.g. test proctoring)

Requirements:

  • Librarian Degree
  • Master of Library & Information
  • A minimum of three years in Librarian role at a high-performing school
  • Comprehensive knowledge of library design services that provide access to the library's collections and information resources through circulation, interlibrary loan, media/video distribution, archives and special collections
  • Commitment to the school's mission, core values, and inclusion statement
  • Collaborative leadership skills and the ability to work well with others
