Summary/Purpose
This Electrical Engineer position will support the design and development of products through production.

Essential Duties and Accountabilities:
Providing technical leadership for safety critical electromechanical components design, test design and instrumentation as well as customer reviews.
Working with customers to define requirements, develop full project timeline with major milestones.
Creating test plans/procedures/reports. Review/ensure test efficiency by validating model/software/hardware in the loop testing as well as in vehicle testing.
Supporting the production plants in implementing long term prevention mechanisms.
Routine interaction with automotive manufacturers, including international and service entities. Collect and clarify customer requirements and inputs. Lead customer technical reviews.
Be an active member of the project team. Analyze steering systems feasibility as well as prepare and present comprehensive customer proposals.

Organize review with JTEKT Japan/Customer as necessary to assure the development of designs that meet or exceed expectations, safety and timing at the lowest cost.

Review will include but is not limited to: Design reviews, Engineering change release, steering system sizing, life analysis, stress analysis, interface checks, packaging study, dimensional checks, 3D models preparation, drawings, bill of materials, engineering specifications, test plans, test results analysis, final test reports.

Maintain an open issues list to ensure open items are being tracked and closed to meet internal/customer milestones/deadlines.
Support benchmarking activities and new product improvements (i.e. VA/VE).

Participate and assist in, prototype/pilot product design, build, and testing (DV, PV, etc.) to ensure that the customer's expectations are met and/or exceeded.

Lead and participate in JTEKT's internal APQP process (Quality Gate System). Lead and own each TC responsible gate.

This includes but is not limited to building compliance charts per customer specifications, create and present design review material, create and or update DFMEA / DRBFM.

Work with suppliers to review component design capability and support localization of components.
Provide technical support on the product to JTEKT cross functional teams (Quality, Manufacturing, Purchasing, etc.).
Late evening or early morning meetings may be required to communicate with other global TC's in Japan and Europe.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge in Motor Control Theory for brushless motors
Experience with common debugging tools such as Oscilloscope, network analyzer, CAN interface tools, emulators, etc.
Understanding of structured development process (ie: V-Cycle).
Experience with FMEA, FTA and structured problem-solving techniques (8D, 5Y...) Preferred.
Excellent program/project planning and management knowledge.
Able to gather data, anticipate and diagnose problems, and develop contingency plans.
Adapt to shifting priorities in response to the needs of internal and external clients.
Able to maintain strong pace and extended effort in resolution of program issues or technical troubleshooting.
Safety Critical Electric System (Steering, Brakes, powertrain...) development experience is preferred.
Working knowledge of tools and processes related to automotive product development preferred.
Working knowledge of ASPICE / CMMI as well as safety standards including IEC 61508 and ISO 26262 preferred.

Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or equivalent is required.
2-5 years of related automotive experience required.
Experience in brushless DC motors is a plus.
Knowledge of C and MISRA rules is a plus.
