    Description

    The Lawyer Referral Service (LRS) is a public service program of the Alameda County Bar Association that is dedicated to providing access to quality legal assistance for Alameda County and East Bay residents. The Intake Coordinator is a part time non-exempt position that is the primary point of contact between clients seeking attorney services and the attorneys offering legal services. The position is a 20 hours per week at $25/hour. Scheduling is flexible but we ask that the successful candidate be available to work at least two to three weekday mornings per week. The Intake Coordinator fields a high volume of inquiries from the public, conducting intakes (identifying legal issues), and providing information about other legal services agencies. The position also assists Legal Access (a non-profit affiliated legal aid organization) by scheduling clients in legal clinics and conducting client intakes.

    Qualifications/Required:

    • Handle a high number of inquiries from the public seeking legal assistance and communicate effectively with a diverse client population in a professional, concise and positive manner.
    • Work both independently and excerise good judgment and be a part of a highly diverse team on complex tasks under pressure.
    • Ability to learn and adapt in a fast-paced environment.
    • Strong commitment to public service and access to justice.
    • Experience with diverse middle-income and low-income populations.
    • Familiarity with electronic databases and spreadsheets.

    Qualifications/Preferred:

    • One year of customer service.
    • Bi-lingual in Spanish and English.
    • Interest in/Knowledge of legal issues and the legal profession.

    Job Responsibilities:

    • Respond in a timely manner to incoming (phone, voicemail and online) inquiries from the public seeking legal assistance.
    • Analyze requests for an attorney referral and compose a brief case description and/or provide information to an appropriate social or legal services agency.
    • Process client requests for attorney services and enter this information into an electronic database for subsequent referral and follow up.
    • Screen and register people for legal advice clinics.
    • Communicate with attorneys to refer potential clients, providing all relevant facts, dates and court information.
    • Other general office and administrative tasks as assigned.

    The Work Environment:

    This is primarily a remote position. However, initial and follow-up training will take place in-person in our downtown Oakland office. There will be regularly scheduled in-person meetings and times when we all work in-person as a team.
