    Job Summary


    The Tool Room Supervisor is responsible for the day‑to‑day activities and operations of the Tooling Department, which includes techniques and processes to repair or overhaul turbine jet engine components. The Supervisor oversees the development, creation, and maintenance of tooling and fixtures required for main production processes and equipment, ensuring work is executed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with quality standards.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    • Oversee safety and well‑being of the team, ensuring adherence to company standards.
    • Monitor assigned work, review completed jobs, and prioritize tasks with production planners to meet deadlines.
    • Adjust production schedules as needed due to machine outages and staffing schedules.
    • Utilize computer software to assign, verify, track, and monitor metrics and job assignments.
    • Motivate, coach, and counsel team members to achieve desired results.
    • Manage personnel work hours, scheduled time off, shift schedules, and overtime with the Department Manager.
    • Participate in interviewing and hiring, performance reviews, employee development, conflict resolution, and disciplinary actions with the Department Manager.
    • Collaborate with trainers and department managers to monitor, guide, and improve employee development and process improvements.
    • Communicate changes that affect employees in a timely manner during department meetings.
    • Develop machining methods, techniques, and processes for components and engine parts in coordination with Process Engineers and R&D.
    • Perform machining processes on high alloy materials to turn, mill, or grind turbine engine parts.
    • Troubleshoot existing tooling and fixtures, conceptualizing ideas, work scope, instructions, and drawings.
    • Participate in problem‑solving and continuous improvement efforts.
    • Communicate regularly with engineers, training coordinators, and machinists to improve skill levels and repair processes.
    • Participate in repair development projects for new programs.
    • Follow written and verbal work instructions, work sketches, and use shop math and trigonometry.
    • Identify and correct machining problems relative to tools and tool holders, collets, and chucks.
    • Accurately record findings on provided work instructions and documentation.
    • Contribute to the training process and offer expertise in the OJT program for machinist technicians.
    • Participate in certain production runs and work in any department to help troubleshoot or develop tooling.

    Required Qualifications

    • Minimum of 2 years in a Tool Room supervisory role in a manufacturing or aviation maintenance environment.
    • Experience in understanding and following verbal and written instructions, including shop drawings and work scope.
    • Five years of Tool Room experience as a machinist, with proficiency in:
    • Manual lathe, CNC mill, and Bridgeport operations.
    • Creative problem‑solving on machine setups, tooling, and fixturing (2+ years).
    • Understanding of GD&T and interpretation of shop drawings and technical diagrams.
    • Experience with high‑strength alloy metal machining.

    Other Qualifications

    • Technical high school diploma, machinist trade school, or equivalent work experience.
    • Set‑up experience with tooling and fixtures, following instructions from technical drawings.
    • Familiarity with shop math principles and basic trigonometry.
    • Proficiency in reading, writing, speaking, and understanding English, and the ability to communicate with other employees.

  • Pre‑employment testing may include fitness for duty testing and a vision exam.
  • Follow shop safety procedures, including the use of safety glasses, safety toe shoes, and hearing protection.
  • Stand and/or sit for portions of the shift; move parts (>50 pounds) using hoists, slings, carts, or other handling methods.
  • Move less heavy parts (<50 pounds) with or without hoists, slings, or carts.
