- Responsible for clinical reminders, suicide screening and tobacco cessation.
- Obtaining medical histories & providing physical examination.
- Ordering diagnostic studies such as laboratory tests, x-ray, and electrocardiograms.
- Request specialty care through consultation.
- Admitting and discharging patients in consultation with, and on behalf of the collaborating physician
- Developing a treatment plan, providing and coordinating medical care for assigned patients in any care setting, including establishing diagnosis, and providing follow-up care
- Documentation in the medical record as required by medical center policies and procedures
- Evaluating outpatients to determine the need for further healthcare
- Ordering patient care supplies
- Obtaining and documenting informed consent for treatments and procedures
- Function as a surgical assist in the Operating Room

Summary
This position falls in the Surgical Service at the Memphis VA Medical Center. The Physician Assistant (PA) is a clinician dedicated to care delivery of ambulatory patients and whose primary area of responsibility will involve clinical performance and documentation of health care delivery for Veterans according to VHA standards.
Duties
The responsibilities of the PA include diagnosis and management of acute and chronic medical and psychosocial conditions, health promotion, disease prevention, and overall care management. The type of care served to the Veteran population with diseases and conditions indicating the need for surgical intervention, and perioperative and postoperative care. Duties include but are not limited to the following:
