    Definition:


    Under direction of Recreation Supervisor, is responsible for a variety of recreation and educational activities in an indoor and outdoor recreation/education center, conducts educational activities with assigned groups; does related work as required.


    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:


    Leads a variety of educational and recreational activities in an outside facility; handles and demonstrates proper handing of live sea creatures and other living specimens for children ages 5 to 12; teaches and models attitudes toward the environment; teaches information on ecology and science; reports to the Recreation Supervisor on activities, plan, and problems; oversees the use of equipment and supplies.


    Requirements:

    Education/Experience:
    Special training or experience in teaching grade school children preferred.

    Knowledge of:
    The problems involved in the leadership of grade school children; some knowledge of ecology and science.

    Ability to:

    Lead a group of children in learning about bay ecology and healthy environmental attitudes; give instructions to participants; enforce safety precautions and give first aid; establish and maintain good working relationships with participants; read, write, speak, understand or communicate in English sufficiently to perform the duties of this position.

    The applicant must be at least 16 years of age by June 15th, 2017.


    Tools and Equipment Used:


    Touch Tank with live creatures; minnow net; office machines such as a duplicating machine; craft supplies; DVD, VCR; microscope, telescope.


    Physical Demands:

    Position requires employee to:
    Continuously walk and talk and hear; frequently use hands to finger, handle, or feel, and reach with hands and arms; and occasionally, stand, sit, climb a staircase, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and lift up to 30 lbs


    Special vision requirements:
    Close, distance, peripheral, and ability to adjust focus.


    Work Environment:

    Position requires employee to:

    Primarily work in an outside facility on grass and in a driveway in summer weather conditions including sun, shade, heat, humidity, and wind; and frequently work in a former garage and on the second floor of an old home.

    Bayside Center facilities are in a close proximity to the bay and are not air-conditioned.
