    Position Summary
    Under general supervision of department chair, a person in this position is responsible for teaching undergraduate and/or graduate courses, advising students, and supervising teacher candidates in their field and student teaching placements. In addition to preparing for and holding classes, teaching involves maintaining currency in the content area related to the teaching assignment, evaluating students' work, assessing student outcomes, maintaining appropriate records, and holding office hours. The individual is expected to maintain an active, on-going program of scholarship appropriate to the discipline. In addition, this individual will provide service to the department, college, and university and is likely expected to provide service to the community and/or the profession. Other duties may be assigned by the chair or dean.
    The two positions require teaching in the Physical, Adapted, and School Health Education (PASHE) undergraduate and Physical Education Teaching (PET) graduate programs, with responsibilities aligned with the expertise of the hire and the needs of the programs. We are seeking candidates who are passionate about and will integrate social and emotional learning (SEL) as an integral part of their scholarship, teaching, and service. The ideal candidates will be passionate about teaching standards-based physical education, the integration of skills-based school health education, and adapted physical education. Responsibilities are expected to include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in the following areas: foundations of physical and school health education, methods courses in physical and/or school health education, curriculum development in physical and/or school health education, as well as others depending on the expertise of the candidate and the needs of the program, and may include courses in school health education depending on the expertise of the candidate. In addition, there is an expectation for this individual to supervise student theses/projects, conduct academic advising, and student teaching supervision.
    This position is affiliated with the School of Education (SOE) and the dean of SOE will provide feedback regarding hiring and personnel reviews to the department. School of Education affiliated staff are expected to be engaged in service activities and continuous learning to inform and enhance the work they do with prospective teachers. Some additional work hours outside the academic school year may be required in order to align duties with the K-12 school year. Faculty members in this position collaborate with the School of Education on advising and curricular-related issues.

    Required Qualifications
    • Candidates for the appointment should have or be near to completing a doctorate degree in Physical Education Teaching or a closely related field by the start date. Degree must be earned by the first personnel review, no later than May 15, 2024
    • Currently holds or previously held a license in physical education
    • Minimum of 3 years physical education and/or school health education teaching experience in U.S. PK-12 schools or the equivalent
    • Knowledge of and experience planning, teaching, and assessing standards-based physical education and/or school health education
    • Evidence of an emerging research agenda related to physical education
    • Evidence of commitment to social justice, educational equity, multiculturalism, diversity, and inclusion as it relates to teaching, research, and/or service


    Preferred Qualifications
    • Currently holds or previously held a license in school health education, or is willing to prepare for and add a school health license within the first year of employment through a structured plan with allocated workload
    • Teaching experience in both physical education and school health education
    • University level teaching experience
    • Experience working in a Professional Learning Community
    • Experience with the edTPA teacher performance assessment
    • Experience as a cooperating teacher and/or student teaching supervisor
    • Experience using the Whole School, Whole Child Whole Community Model (WSCC) or equivalent ecological school model
    • Knowledge of adapted physical education pedagogy
    • Experience working within a professional development school model
