    Overview:

    We are looking for someone who loves to be proactive and solve challenges to independently lead our primary packaging projects.

    Reporting to the Director of R&D for the Americas region, you will be responsible for guiding the development, implementation, execution, and

    management of material for the primary packaging of all WD-40 Companys existing and future products in Americas.

    This

    hands-on independent contributor role requires experience in the areas of

    design, development, process engineering, evaluation, testing, quality integration, regulatory compliance and cost saving initiatives. You will partner with

    internal and external technical experts in the integration and development of products and equipment to ensure the timely delivery of sustainable

    primary packaging systems to the marketplace. This position has product design responsibility for interpreting, organizing, executing and coordinating projects within corporate guidelines and environmental/regulatory requirements.


    This role offers the flexibility of an hybrid schedule between your home and the WD-40 Technical Center located in Pine Brook NJ.


    Responsibilities:
    Leads the development of primary package engineering initiatives across Innovation/R&D, Supply Chain and Quality to include:

    Package design:
    Aesthetics, ergonomics, manufacturability, containment, evacuation, application, decoration, costs, innovation and compatibility of primary componentry.

    Project leadership:
    Internal/external collaboration, sourcing, timing and technical documentation.

    Process improvement:

    Institutes new process where needed, provides input on existing process to increase speed to market, improve costs, create a culture of sustainability, and increase efficiency.

    Identifies product design improvements in the areas of regulatory compliance, product performance and labor/material cost reductions.

    Quality:
    Works with Global Quality in the resolution of quality issues related to current packaging. Applies root cause analysis principles to determine failure causation. Independently identifies changes needed to eliminate the failure(s)

    Designs for manufacturability:

    assures all designs can be readily produced within an efficient production process using existing or readily available equipment and technology.


    • Keeps abreast and investigates new and emerging primary packaging trends and technologies for possible application with the company's present and future products. Researches and develops multiple design options for internal review and approval. Refines concepts, working through development, testing, and implementation.
    • Performs feasibility testing in parallel with the design process to determine commercialization potential and practicality of design. Creates technical specifications for packaging components to encompass both structural and creative design considerations. Defines, reviews, updates and approves functional specifications and drawings to include dimensions, tolerances, materials, and assembly methods. Release approved specifications to Quality Management System.
    • Prepares and manages project timelines and tracks progress on design projects, in collaboration with the project manager.
    • Maintains positive, productive relationships with all internal partners including, but not limited to, Supply Chain, AIDG and Marketing. Conducts work in professional manner while managing multiple projects. Develops effective working network with outside suppliers in order to leverage their resources in implementing packaging initiatives.

    Qualifications:


    5+ years in a similar role with a focus on consumer goods products with at least some experience in the packaging field leading primary package development projects.

    Experience with manufacturing, trial production, and package testing.
    Demonstrated experience managing multiple projects, ideally in a matrix-management organizational structure.
    Strong oral and written communication skills and ability to communicate across multiple disciplines with internal and external customers.
    Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering or Industrial Packaging.
    Education, knowledge, interest, or experience with Chemical Engineering or similar scientific field, desirable but not required.
