- Meetings and Task Coordination: Actively participate in meetings to discuss daily assignments and work tasks with the team.
- Power Line Construction and Repairs: Learn and assist in the construction, repair, and upgrade of power lines. This includes setting and framing poles, stringing wire, hanging and connecting transformer banks, and performing new service hookups and disconnects. Also, participate in the removal of old poles, lines, and transformers.
- Equipment Operation: Operate a variety of specialized tools and vehicles, including those requiring a Class B commercial driver's license. Operate large equipment such as bucket trucks, digger trucks, dump trucks, front-end loaders, and trenchers, even in congested areas and near energized high-voltage lines.
- Tree Trimming: Participate in tree trimming activities near high voltage lines and assist in switching on distribution/transmission lines.
- Confined Space Work: Safely enter and work in confined spaces with high voltage as required.
- Electrical Services: Assist in connecting and reconnecting residential and commercial services, repairing electrical equipment, installing 3-phase and single-phase electrical meters, and troubleshooting electrical problems, including addressing issues like blinking lights, radio interference, and high or low voltage.
- Vehicle and Equipment Maintenance: Maintain vehicles, tools, and equipment, including performing oil changes, vehicle washing, and applying decals. Follow lock-out/tag-out procedures when necessary.
- Digger/Pole-Setting Truck: Use digger/pole-setting trucks to load and unload line materials.
- Terminations: Prepare high voltage cables to operate in confined spaces following specific procedures. Ensure proper measurements and operation of tools such as crimpers, strippers, cutters, and cleaners.
- Aerial Work: Safely work from aerial devices during outages, locate faults, and repair failed electrical equipment after storms or other events. Operate high voltage switches and energized conductors in high voltage cabinets.
- Maintenance and Repairs: Perform maintenance activities on the electrical system, repair property, and cleanup work sites. Additionally, address streetlight repairs within the city.
- Underground Utility Locates: Conduct underground utility locates and excavate underground utilities when necessary, using trenchers.
- Performs other duties and assumes other responsibilities as apparent or assigned.
- Required to perform on call duties on a rotational basis responding to all utility emergencies, fiber construction, and provide aid to other departments when needed.
- High school graduate or GED equivalent.
- Post High School Accredited Vocational Correspondence Course and vocational trade school enrollment desired.
- Must possess a valid State of Minnesota driver's license
- Must be committed to safety, quality work, and customer service.
- Able and willing to respond to after hours and weekend work.
- Ability to work well with others and exhibit teamwork attitude.
- Ability to work in confined spaces.
- Must be able to complete the physical requirements of the position.

The Electric Lineman Intern is an integral member of the team responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical power lines and associated equipment. This role is a program designed to develop the skills and knowledge required to become a proficient Electric Journey Lineworker.
