    Job Description:


    The Licensed Practical Nurse 3 applies practical knowledge and employs specialized skills to facilitate efficient operations and to provide quality medical care to a diverse student population, focusing on preventative maintenance and restorative care and employing evidence-based practice.

    This position functions as a member of a multi-disciplinary team in the Medical Clinics, consisting of physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, nurses and medical assistants.

    They should have a deep appreciation for a collaborative care model, partnering with Mental Health Service and Wellness and Health Promotion, and a commitment to advancing the divisional priorities of quality, access and inclusion, mattering and belonging.

    Job Responsibilities


    40% - Performs technical nursing duties to support all aspects of care in the Sexual Health & GYN clinic and communicates with both the providers and GYN RNs as needed.

    Educates students about gynecological issues, administers injections, and assists with GYN procedures according to provider's orders. Monitors patients for adverse reactions to treatments provided and follows up with patients per policy. Effectively uses electronic health record for documentation, immunization verification, coding, billing, student communication and scheduling, while prioritizing patient confidentiality.


    30% - Performs skilled nursing duties to complete prior authorizations and referrals, provides student education, coordinates community resources, and gives direction to GYN Medical Specialists.

    Assists in Medical or Specialty Clinics, following cross training, within LPN scope of practice.


    20% - Coordinates with Lighthouse Collaborative Care Team, LH NP and Nurse Manager to update Lighthouse policies based on Team and CDC recommendations.

    Serves as a liaison between Mental Health, Wellness and Medical/Nursing staff regarding care of the sexual assault survivor.

    Attends annual LH training, on campus outreach programs and provides direct crisis intervention support, as well as information on counseling, education, treatment options and support programs available through the Lighthouse Program.

    Works closely with Nurse Manager to coordinate annual education for the Nursing staff regarding the care of the sexual assault survivor.


    5% - Attends regular meetings; completes required training, performs inventory and stocking of treatment area and participates in quality improvement and accreditation initiatives.

    5% - Other duties as assigned.

    Minimum Qualifications


    • Possession of a valid Louisiana license or temporary permit to practice practical nursing or a multi-state license issued by a Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC/eNLC) state plus two years of practical nursing experience.

    Due to the nature of the position and/or position responsibilities, this position shall be subject to drug/alcohol testing in accordance with University Policy Statement 67.

    Ability to work occasional evenings, weekends and holidays.


    In accordance with University Policy Statement 18, this position is considered essential and may be required to report or stay on campus in the event of an emergency or closure.
