Description
Directs, plans, and manages support staff to create, develops and implements strategies and activities for income operations of the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics as it relates to Athletic Marketing & Promotions.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
Supervises and manages subordinate personnel; interviews applicants and makes hiring recommendations; trains and orients new employees; monitors and evaluates job performance; monitors and approves employee leave requests; ensures compliance with university policies and procedures; receives employee complaints and attempts to resolve the issue; assigns and issues lower level corrective action in accordance with university policies and procedures; receives and adjust/respond to grievances; investigates and effectively recommends more severe discipline action (e.g. major suspensions, terminations, etc.) as warranted.
Oversees the administration of Athletic Marketing operations with an emphasis on income generation through sponsorships, promotions, ticket sales, radio & TV sales, Penguin Club memberships, and operational effectiveness; identifies, researches, and solicits corporate and business partnerships; directs, develops, and implements sale of season, group, and individual game tickets with emphasis on increasing corporate partnership revenue and event attendance; ensures accuracy and proper documentation of all activities.
Assumes responsibility for the development and implementation of department marketing and promotional plans designed to result in a broad based increase among department revenue sources (e.g. ticket sales, sponsorships, Penguin Club memberships, etc.); identifies, researches, and solicits corporate and business partnerships; identifies and develops new revenue sources for the department; evaluates revenues source information to gauge operational effectiveness; adjusts/revises strategies to remedy any individual deficiencies.Directs athletic department print and media advertising; designs print and electronic advertising campaigns and works with media sources to effectively deliver campaign materials/messages; creates and implements strategies for broad-based marketing and promotional plans; designs ad campaigns and works with media partners to promote YSU games and/or events; assists with development of schedule cards, posters, brochures, game programs, and other printed materials, income operations and promotion of department events.
Produces documentation for proper payment of related expenses; serves as the department contact for all student body promotions as they relate to Athletics.
Directs, creates, develops, and implements strategies for all Athletic Department broadcasts, including Penguin Sports Network; including but not limited to: radio, television and internet based programming Produces documentation for proper payment of related expenses; performs the play-by-play duties for various department broadcasts on radio, TV, and the internet; serves as the main department contact for all league and NCAA game broadcasts; assists the leadership with all broadcast contracts and University bids for radio, television, and internet broadcast rights.
Assists with special events for the department and Penguin Club; duties will vary by event and will include generation of income.
Demonstrates regular and predictable attendance.Meets all job safety requirements and all applicable OSHA safety standards that pertain to essential functions.
Other Functions and Responsibilities:
Actively participates in public relations appearances and community services activities on behalf of the Department.
Complies with all NCAA, conference, and institutional regulations, policies, and procedures.
Participates on various University, conference, and national committees, and other special assignments.
Assists with NCAA and conference championship events.
Performs any and all other related duties as assigned or directed in order to promote, further, and ensure the effective and efficient operation of YSU.
Performs other related duties as assigned.Equipment Operated:
Computer and all other standard office equipment.
Work Schedule:
Must be able to work flexible schedule, including nights and weekends.
Some travel required.
Supervision Exercised:
Supervision exercised over staff and student employees.

Required Certifications, Training, and/or Licensures:
Valid driver's license.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of:
Microsoft Office products, Adobe Acrobat and Creative, including Photoshop and Premiere Pro University systems to include Banner, Concur travel management, and the eCube purchasing system*.
Skill in:
excellent written and oral communication skills; troubleshooting personal computers, laptops, multi-functional printers, and HP printers*.

Minimum Qualifications:
At least a bachelor's degree; ten years of sales and managerial experience; broadcast and play-by-play experience at the college or professional level.
