Description

The Clinical Research Group Research Nurse will have strong interpersonal and organizational skills with excellent attention to detail, ability to multitask and work well under time constraints. The candidate will have excellent computer skills with proficiency in all Microsoft software applications. They will participate in the development of research goals and objectives by attending staff meetings, in-service programs, attending appropriate continuing education opportunities, staff development programs, as well as participating in Quality Improvement initiatives to support implementation of change.

• Significant part of this job will be to help with Inpatient studies in the Inpatient units and will require morning and evening hours.
• Clinical Roles
• Collaborates with nursing and medical staff to facilitate and optimize the care of the research patient.
• Attends workability meetings with a bedside nursing focus to review order sets for completeness and readability specific equipment requirements and create reference/ education materials for unit staff.
• Administers medications pertaining to research study, performs vital and phlebotomy (PK, PD sampling, order EKGs and other) per protocol, including infusion or administration of research products.
• Identify, screen, consent, enroll and track patients on clinical trials.
• Orders study specific supplies, lab work and protocol specific procedures per study and department protocols
• Provides education to patients, families, and significant others on research protocol requirements.
• Create/provide tools necessary to facilitate successful data collection as required by the research patient and/or their family.
• Performs toxicity assessments, grading under the direction of investigator.
• Liaison between clinical team and research team to develop processes, troubleshoot complications, lead correction action plans, and facilitate communication.
• Reviews dose changes or laboratory abnormalities under the direction of the physician to report on clinical trial.

• Attends Site Initiation Visits (SIV) meetings by sponsors/investigators.
• Reviews budget, study design feasibility and protocol requirements in the research treatment plan with the principal investigator.
• Possesses a working knowledge of clinical trial design and operation.
• Demonstrates proficiency in operating multiple electronic applications used for documentation and obtaining results.
• Works with research staff to maintain study supplies.
• Ensures patient scheduling aligns to protocol for study visits.
• Document research patient care by completing source documentation, reporting adverse drug experiences, managing workload and managing patient study files.
• Follow institution specific guidelines related to patient research Quality Roles
• Maintains a highly professional and positive attitude with strong organizational management.
• Obtains PEERS, CITI or NIH Protection of Human Subjects Training Certification and maintains annually.
• Participates in quality assurance and in quality improvement processes and training.
• Maintains knowledge of current ICH and FDA guidelines. Facilitates and maintains full regulatory compliance and working knowledge of protocol requirements and good clinical practices as set forth by federal regulations.
