    Description

    What you'll do: (specifics on what the role entails and what is to be expected of the candidate on a daily basis)

    • Design and implement flight control requirements and algorithms for novel electric VTOL aircraft guidance, navigation, and control logics.
    • Design and implement requirements for the aircraft sensors and state estimation algorithms, including sensors selection, voting, monitoring, fault detection, and sensor fusion.
    • Implement creative solutions to efficiently verify complex systems and software
    • Run trade studies to inform aircraft design and system architecture
    • Improve the fidelity and capabilities of our vehicle and environment simulation models
    • Author and validate system and software requirements and test cases that drive the design of the GNC and State Estimation software
    • Support the integration and test of the flight control system and evaluate system performance during aircraft lab integration and flight test campaigns
    • Analyze flight and lab test data to improve our models
    • Collaborate with Systems Engineering to properly decompose higher level requirements
    • Collaborate with Systems Safety and Systems Engineering to identify and correct any deficiencies in the flight control system.
    • Collaborate with Software Engineering to properly implement and verify flight control system algorithms

    What you need: (degrees, skills, years of experience, etc.)

    • Strong knowledge of vehicle dynamics and both classical and modern control theory
    • BS in Aerospace Engineering, Electrical/Computer Engineering, or a related field with at least 10 years of relevant experience OR
      MS with at least 8 years of relevant experience OR
      PhD with at least 6 years of relevant experience
    • High proficiency in MATLAB/Simulink

    Bonus Qualifications:

    Familiarity with aircraft or rotorcraft performance and handling qualities requirements

    • Experience with envelope protection
    • Experience with modeling physics, sensors, and actuators
    • Experience with source selection and fault detection of redundant sensors inputs
    • Experience with sensor signal processing and sensor fusion algorithms such as Kalman Filters
    • Experience implementing trajectory generation and/or optimization algorithms
    • Technical knowledge of aircraft inertial sensor types like AHRS, INS, GNSS, and others such as Air Data Systems and Radar Altimeters
    • Experience with SAE ARP4754A, RTCA DO-178C, or RTCA DO-331
    • Experience flight testing piloted and/or autonomous aircraft or rotorcraft
    • Piloting experience (aircraft or rotorcraft)
