    Job Description

    The Network Deployment Engineer is a member of the Site Survey workstream, responsible for the intake, scheduling, coordination, and execution of all site surveys. As a member of the site deployment team, the Network Deployment Engineer is responsible for the design and execution of all customer site installations following the findings from the site survey. They will work with stakeholders to design the network infrastructure, taking pre-existing systems into consideration, generate bill of materials (BOM), coordinate equipment ordering and execute local installation and configuration.

    Job Responsibilities


    • Deployment and configuration of Local Area Network (LAN) hardware & Wide Area Network (WAN) integration


    • Perform installation of LAN and endpoints to site


    • Inventory site installation package and provide report to the PMO representative


    • Validation and execution of site survey following prescribed checklist, including but not limited to the evaluation of existing network infrastructure and inventory of WAN circuit/connectivity


    • Train local customers on operational basics


    • Determines requirements of large-scale networks/systems.


    • Plans, designs and develops complex local area networks (LANs) and wide area networks (WANs).


    • Plans and oversees installation of computer networks such as local area networks (LANs), wide area networks (WANs), the Internet, intranets, and other data communications systems.


    • Plans and oversees installation of server hardware and software infrastructure.


    • Designs, deploys, and troubleshoots large-scale network deployments and oversees mid and small-scale network deployments.


    • Develops, designs, and plans for installation and maintenance of telecommunications systems from project inception to conclusion.


    • Investigates and analyzes resource utilization and prepares high-level reports and metrics, making appropriate changes to optimize the network infrastructure and provide the highest possible level of performance and security.


    • Configures networking hardware to latest industry and manufacturer standards and best practices.


    • Configures hardware and software for the user environment.


    • Analyzes documentation and recommends improvements and changes to methods and procedures.


    • Recommends new software and hardware that provide new features/functions.


    • Plans and oversees testing to ensure the proper working condition and security of developed and purchased network systems.


    • Builds, supports and maintains the protection of company data and systems through the use of security solutions, backups, redundancy and disaster recovery solutions.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field or equivalent experience. Master's Degree preferred.

    3+ years' experience in Network Operations

    10+ years of experience in network administration.

    TS/SCI


    • Working knowledge of enterprise network gear including routers, switches, and load balancers


    • Demonstrated experience diagnosing/debugging faults in complex services or distributed systems


    • Working knowledge of enterprise routing protocols and IP subnetting


    • Experience using common diagnostic tools like Netmon, WinDBG and Wireshark


    • Able to diagnose and mitigate faults


    • Able to identify and drive recovery levers with feature teams


    • Able to communicate effectively through written and oral English


    • Able to interact with external customers and partners on behalf of Microsoft


    • Ability to perform work under continuous deadline pressure


    • Ability to execute work with precision in time sensitive outage scenarios


    • Effectively communicate status changes to impact

    Certifications/Licensure

    CompTIA Network+ and/or
    • CCNA or CCNP certification preferred.

    Preferred Specific Skills


    • Recommended to have completed undergraduate Computer Science degree or apprenticeship degree


    • Understanding of TCP/IP fundamentals (e.g. DNS, FTP, SSH, ACL, VLAN, DMZ, BGP), general networking technologies, network architecture and connectivity troubleshooting


    • Experience or exposure to a hosting providers, online services, or internet service provider environment is preferred. This time must include troubleshooting routing, switching, and load balancing in a complex networking environment.


    • Thorough experience performing packet capture analysis or running Wireshark is highly desirable.


    • Ability to execute work with precision in time sensitive outage scenarios

    • Excellent oral and written communications to exchange information, explain procedures, techniques, and answer questions in a clear logical manner.


    • Outstanding diagnostic, problem-solving and analytical skills of complex issues.


    • Ability to provide professional documentation (diagrams, specifications, technical requirements, and proposal content).


    • Experience architecting, designing, implementing, and maintaining complex network infrastructures.


    • Proven ability to develop and manage infrastructure design patterns, standards, blueprints, application frameworks, configurations, product technical solutions and roadmap.


    • Maintains knowledge of backup/recovery practices.
