General Information:
Beds: 44
Minimum experience: 1.5 years general nursing experience
Patient Types:
This is a mixed acuity unit meaning there will be Intermediate Care acuity as well as Tele and MedSurg – please ensure traveler understands
Direct admits, ED admits, Post Cath Lab, etc
MI, NSTEMI & STEMI (IABP would go to ICU), CHF, Dysrhythmia management, Pacemaker malfunction, Epicardial pacers
Backup Stroke unit and Medical Overflow
Step down level experience with post cardiac/vascular, post-cardiac cath patients, post open heart surgery, post TAVR, post EP studies, post pacemaker inserti
Patient Ratios:
RN: 1:4 most of the time, can be 1:3 (acuity dependent)
Required Certifications:
BLS, ACLS, NIHSS
Required Education:
Completion of a nursing education program that is approved by a board of nursing; Registered Nurse (RN) - South Dakota Board of Nursing
Skills required:
PCU level RN
Experience with Cardiac procedural recovery (CABG/TAVR/post cardiac cath), MI pharmacology, titratable Cardiac/vasoactive gtts (Cardizem, Amiodarone, Nitro, Levo, Dopamine) – please request manager approval if traveler does not have this, Heparin gtts, cardiac rhythm interpretation, chest tubes management, TNK administration (preferred)
Support on the Unit:
CNA (Ratio: 1:5-8, depending on shift)
Charge nurse - Unassigned
Phlebotomy – Yes, peripheral blood draws
Resource Nurse – Occasionally
Tele tech would oversee cardiac monitoring – RN would confirm strips 6a & 6p
RT - yes, 24/7
Hospitalist - in facility 24/7, but not dedicated to unit
Charting System/Equipment:
Alaris
Omnicell
Floating:
If yes, where:
Primarily to our sister unit, General PCU – as needed
Could also be floated to MS/Tele or ICU to care for PCU level patients
Could be floated within scope of practice and below
