SUMMARY

This position is responsible for performing work in our tax, compliance, and internal audit area and providing external audit support as needed.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1.)Contributes as a team member to the Treasurer's Office by:

Setting an example by conduct in regards to ethics, professionalism, Golden Rule, and basic Church standards regardless of membership.
Contributing to the successful overall performance of the Treasurer's Office functions.
Taking on projects as needed which benefit the whole office.

2.) Aids in the planning process and execution of internal audit work and supports external audit work (50%)

Executes planned internal audits within the Treasurer's Office and across departments to assess and improve controls, safeguards, and performance.
Maintains a high standard with regard to attribute testing and documentation.
Maintains a high standard of professional skepticism through all audit phases.
Assists with external audit documentation related to tax and compliance area, as needed.

3.) Aids in the coordination of externally performed tax work and preparation of internally performed government compliance reporting. (50%)

Gathers and compiles information for unrelated business income (UBI) and other reportable items as required. Coordinates with supervisors to ensure timely reporting, and applies critical thinking skills in supporting external tax advisor work. Filings include estimated payments, extensions, and annual payments and reporting.
Performs government compliance work and supports the preparation of filings and reporting (e.g., filings with Boston assessor's office, US government census, worker's compensation, and trust-related annual filings).
Supports interaction with government tax agencies on questions and issues.
Performs and supports compliance work required for banking relationships.
Compiles sales tax information and prepares returns.

This position has regular contact with the Internal Audit, Tax, and Compliance Lead, the Controller, other personnel in the Treasurer's Office, and various managers throughout the organization

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Education/Experience

A bachelor's degree in accounting, business administration, or finance is preferred.

An advanced accounting degree or a Certified Public Accounting (CPA) certificate is preferred.

Experience in government related filings, compliance, and accounting work is necessary.

Experience executing internal audit plans is preferred.

Ability to manage and engage with multiple projects concurrently, communicate on complex topics with internal and external interested parties, and apply critical thinking skills to a variety of compliance matters is important to conducting the work.

Knowledge/Skills

Accounting and general tax related knowledge is required.

Technology Skills

Financial systems, Microsoft Office (including strong Excel knowledge), and an ability to learn new applications and technical tools.

Work Environment

This position works in the Boston office with an opportunity for a hybrid work schedule.

Engagement with Christian Science

Membership in The Mother Church preferred; Primary Class instruction preferred.

Background Checks

This position is required to complete a background check to be hired and annual background checks thereafter.
