    Our Accounting team is growing Coverys is currently looking for anAccountantto join us

    The primary role of the Accountant is to perform monthly, quarterly and annual finance close and financial reporting processes for Coverys' reinsurance business, including program-specific ceded reinsurance placements. Program business includes, but is not limited to all underwriting and claims activities of our Value Based Care and Reinsurance & Allied Health business units, as well as other business produced by MGAs, MGUs or similar group where underwriting results are provided by bordereau. Program business may be written on a direct or assumed basis; it includes both fronted and non-fronted relationships. This position is responsible for the timely and accurate preparation of financial reports and statements; the preparation of journal entries, account reconciliations and various other tasks as directed.

    Essential Duties & Responsibilities

    • Responsible for recording monthly journal entries related to Coverys' reinsurance businesses (both fronted and non-fronted), including preparation of supporting information and assigned account reconciliations.
    • Assist with the timely preparation of quarterly and annual information to support NAIC filings, and statutory and GAAP basis financial statements and footnotes.
    • Provides information and assistance as required by external auditors to enable them to complete financial statement audits.
    • Prepares program-specific, and reinsurance financial analyses and identifies unusual and/or inconsistent trends that require investigation or explanation.
    • Coordinates with business partners, MGAs, MGUs or similar external groups to obtain underwriting and claims details via bordereau or similar to support financial reporting process.
    • Responsible for the timely calculation, recording, and payment of ceded reinsurance. Provides premium bordereau information where necessary.
    • Prepares and provides ceded loss bordereau's to ensure timely collection of recoverable reinsurance.
    • Calculates and assists in the maintenance of appropriate collateral required for reinsurance business for financial and reinsurance purposes.
    • Assists in the maintenance of the Company's reinsurance reporting system for reinsurance programs.
    • Assist with financial audits and regulatory examinations. This includes interaction with the external audit team.
    • Keeps current with changes in statutory and GAAP accounting requirements, recognizes impacts on program-specific operations.
    • Participates in daily status meetings, maintains an up-to-date period close task log in BlackLine.
    • Maintains documentation of program-specific financial reporting processes, procedures and controls.
    • Identifies and recommends opportunities to improve financial processes and supports associated implementation efforts.
    • Works in collaboration with other members of the Corporate Finance team to execute an effective and efficient financial close process.
    • Special projects as assigned.

    Education, Experience, Competencies & Values

    • Bachelor's degree or higher with major coursework in accounting and/or finance
    • CPA, MBA or Master's degree in accounting preferred.
    • 2+ years related accounting and reporting experience in the property & casualty insurance industry.
    • Individual must be proficient in insurance statutory accounting and GAAP accounting, including reinsurance.
    • Experienced with general ledger and other accounting information systems. Workday and BlackLine experience preferred.
    • Advanced Microsoft Excel knowledge and proficiency with other Microsoft Office applications is required.
    • Ability to manage time effectively and meet deadlines.
    • Ability to communicate complex issues in a clear, concise and meaningful way.
    • Strong attention to detail with a high level of accuracy and consistency in preparing work.
    • Ability to actively participate in team development and team-oriented processes and motivate others to do the same.
    • Positive and professional demeanor. Ability to work courteously and enthusiastically with various internal and external parties.
    • Self-motivation and the ability to work in a fast paced, forward moving environment.

    Salary Range is $59,000-$80,000. Individual compensation packages are based on a variety of factors that are unique to each candidate including location, skill set, experience, qualifications and education.
