    Dentist - Per Diem: $100 per hour (2 columns); $50 per hour for each additional column above 2 columns.
    Job Summary

    The Dentist provides professional dental care, emergency dental treatment and oral hygiene to the patients of Columbia Valley Community Health (CVCH), including all relevant and required chart documentation.

    Job Specific Competencies

    • Follows all procedures as outlined in the Clinic Safety Manual and Dental Clinic Blood Born Pathogen Compliance Manual
    a.

    Explains the rationale for infection control and occupational safety protocols according to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) hazard communication standards.

    b. Demonstrates Universal Precautions techniques.

    • Delivers dental care according to clinic protocols and procedures.
    • Provides general and comprehensive dentistry services at CVCH, including performing oral examinations.
    • Examines patients' teeth and oral soft and hard tissues using dental equipment and X-rays. Interprets x-rays; treats mouth diseases; performs prophylactic procedures, restorations and other treatment as needed.
    • Updates health history on all patients.
    • Establishes working relationships with local dental providers.
    • Diagnoses dental conditions and plan oral health care in consultation with patients.
    • Provides dental care within the scope of licensure, standard of care, scope of care of the clinic, and according to WAC guidelines and regulations.
    • Coordinates patient needs with Medical Clinic.
    • Teaches patients about good oral health practices and explains and reviews treatment plans with patients and parents.
    • Performs emergency procedures on patients in order to reduce or eliminate immediate pain providing definitive care, when possible.
    • Performs surgical operations to the mouth, jaws, teeth and related structures.
    • Administers local, general, and inhalation anesthetics when necessary for carrying out treatment.
    • Responsible for dental clinic operation in absence of Dental Clinic Management.
    • Assists in the provision of continuing education, on-the-job training and the orientation of dental staff and overall improvement of CVCH.
    • Travels to other sites and covers other schedules when necessary to fulfill the organizational and departmental needs and attends meetings as necessary.

    Job Specifications

    Education:

    Graduation from an accredited dental school with a DDS or DMD degree, and/or completion with a certificate from a CODA accredited dental residency program.


    Certification/Licensure:

    Washington State Dental License or eligibility to obtain licensure in the state of WA and current DEA with no restrictions and in good standing.

    Maintain documentation of all WAC requirements including continuing education and any other requirements accordingly. Basic Life Support (BLS) required. ACLS or ATLS may be used to substituted for BLS. All Providers must be eligible for enrollment in Medicare and must not be currently opted out of the Medicare program

    Experience:

    One or more years of experience as a clinical dentist required, especially in a community or public health setting.

    Completing a residency program will count toward the experience requirement.

    Language Skills:
    Bilingual in English/Spanish preferred.

    Essential Technical/Motor Skills:
    Good eye/hand coordination and precision, manual dexterity and patience for minute movement, strong sense of aesthetics. Perform complex and comprehensive dental care on a variety of patients. Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.

    Ability to work in a fast-paced and often high-stress environment as well as the ability to adapt quickly to workload changes.


    Interpersonal Skills:
    Must demonstrate strong leadership and team building skills. Must have strong listening, written and oral communication skills, with ability to communicate clearly. Must demonstrate ability to work with basic computer skills and MS Office products, such as Word, Excel, and Outlook. Must have the ability to understand and respond effectively and with sensitivity to children.

    Must have a caring attitude, commitment to serving low-income people; desire to work with all types of people, ability to calm nervous patients.

    Train and evaluate assigned staff. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work. Work with various cultural and ethnic groups in a tactful and efficient manner. Ability to work at all site locations with diverse staff.

    Essential Physical Requirements:
    Prolonged sitting or standing may be required.

    Those physical movements and the degree of mobility normally associated with the practice of primary care dentistry will be performed on a repetitive basis.

    The ability to distinguish letters and symbols, as well as the ability to utilize telephones, computer terminals, and copiers is required.

    Work under stressful conditions as well as irregular hours may be required.

    Requires handling of average-weight objects up to 20 pounds using proper lifting techniques and standing and/or walking for more than four (4) hours per day.

    Ability to hold dental equipment in patient's mouth for long periods of time.

    Essential Mental Abilities:

    On a continuous basis, know and understand all aspects of the job; intermittently analyze work papers, reports and special projects; identify and interpret technical and numerical information; observe and problem solve operational and technical policies and procedures; explain dental procedures.

    Requires a comprehensive knowledge of primary dental care in outpatient settings.

    Knowledge of the principles and practice of modern dentistry as related to community health programs as well as current social and economic problems pertaining to public health and their impact on primary health care.

    Knowledge of state and federal laws pertaining to dentistry, community health centers, and public dental health.

    Essential sensory requirements include the ability to: read computer keyboard, monitor, and documents; prepare and analyze documents; read extensively; hear, recognize, and assess verbal presentations of patients; receive and convey detailed information orally, by telephone and in person; convey accurate and detailed instructions by speaking to others in person and by telephone.


    Exposure to Hazards:
    Exposure to or use of sharps, potentially dangerous chemicals, exposure to body fluids/blood/tissue.

    Frequent exposure to communicable diseases, body fluids, toxic substances, medicinal preparations, radiation and other conditions common to a clinical environment may routinely be encountered.

    Vesting schedule:
    20% at 2 years, 50% at 3 years, 60% at 4 years, and 100% at 5 years.
    WA State Sick Leave
    Employees will accrue 1 hour of Sick Leave for every 40 hours worked.

    Employees are eligible to take paid sick leave for sick leave purposes only after the completion of their 90th day of employment.
