    Following recent contract wins, and with a strong backlog of work with existing clients, we are looking for a Systems Engineer to support major project delivery with a focus on system safety assurance. The Rail Transit group at Mott MacDonald is growing and is involved with several key rail development projects on the West Coast, specifically in Settle, the Bay Area, Los Angeles, and San Diego. This provides excellent opportunities for rail and transit engineering and construction management staff to further their career and work to deliver transformational projects across North America with a focus on the West Coast.

    Position description:

    This role provides systems engineering and safety assurance services to clients predominantly (but not exclusively) in Seattle, Washington. In this role you will use your personality and drive to ensure that project delivery teams engage appropriately with client and contractor stakeholders to deliver a properly integrated and assured project. Duties will include:

    • Support preparation of system safety management and certification plans and develop contract requirements to satisfy those plans.
    • Facilitate hazard analyses with multi-disciplinary teams on large rail infrastructure projects.
    • Perform hazard analyses on discrete elements of rail infrastructure projects.
    • Define system safety requirements in requirements management systems such as DOORS.
    • Review and critically evaluate hazard analyses performed by other entities.
    • Evaluate submitted design and construction documentation and evaluate and record conformance with safety requirements.
    • Produce reports communicating progress of hazard analysis and safety certification activities across multiple contracts on major projects.
    • Support other systems engineering functions such as requirements management, interface management and reliability, availability and maintainability management.
    • Develop training materials and deliver system safety assurance training to project team members.

We are looking for candidates with the following characteristics:

    • Bachelor's degree in engineering, computer science or similar technical field.
    • Registration as a professional engineer preferred.
    • Six years' experience applying systems engineering expertise in the delivery of complex projects.
    • Experience performing preliminary hazard analyses, operating hazard analyses, security threat analyses, subsystem and interface hazard analyses.
    • Knowledge of safety analysis techniques such as fault tree analysis and failure modes and effects analysis.
    • Broad technical knowledge of traction power, railway signaling / train control, fire and life safety systems, and integrated communications systems.
    • Ability to develop strong collaborative and productive relationships across organizational boundaries.
    • Methodical approach to problem solving and the ability to use your initiative to undertake tasks efficiently and independently on multiple assignments.

    Salary Range: $100,000k-$113,000k
