    Instruction Exempt Class Summary:

    The job of the Instructional Coordinator will be focused on supporting District Library programs and other instructional coordination duties.

    The District Library Coordinator will provide the leadership and expertise necessary to ensure that the district libraries are aligned with the mission, goals and objectives of the district; demonstrating best practices in the integration of information and technology skills and resources in all areas of the curriculum while modeling and supporting inquiry-based learning; coordinating district and building level library media programs and ensuring equitable access to information across the district.

    Essential Duties 1 Collaborates with district personnel, departments, and outside agencies for the purpose of creating an environment where collaboration and creative problem solving thrives across the district, meeting state content standards and developing lifelong learners.

    2 Provides instructional leadership, coordination, and specialized support for library teachers and administrators in curriculum development, professional learning opportunities, instruction, research, and program development.

    3 Participates in meetings, in-service training, workshops, etc. (e.g.

    Instructional Design Team, school community groups, school board meeting, parent meetings, faculty meetings, staff development, etc.} for the purpose of improving instruction, advocating for library programs and ensuring program goals and objectives are met.

    4 Designs and provides district wide professional development in regard to best media, information literacy, and inquiry best practices. 5 Designs professional learning opportunities for library staff and provides instructional coaching to support professional growth.

    6 Demonstrates best practices that utilize effective, diverse mix of learning strategies and materials for the purpose of integrating core content with technology tools and information resources to engage students and improve learning.

    Oversees development of District library media centers (e.g. physical and virtual shared learning spaces, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring teaching and inquiry based learning opportunities.

    7 Coordinates mentor training and related programs for library and fine arts staff and assist with new teacher retention for those positions.

    8 Works with venders to acquire the best print, electronic, and digital resources to meet the needs of staff and students at a fair price.

    Manages district electronic resource subscriptions, problems solving technical issue, and coordinating with technology staff to ensure seamless access by students and staff.

    9 Other duties as assigned.


    Knowledge:
    Technology as it is related to the Library curriculum. Skills (position requirements at entry)

    Training and Experience (position requirements at entry):
    Successful teaching experience, Librarian experience preferred, M.L.S. preferred but not required.

    Licensing Requirements (position requirements at entry):

    Current Type A or Type C Alaska Certificate, endorsement as Media Specialist, Librarian, English or other Fine Arts endorsement.

    Holds a valid TYPE A teaching certification, endorsement, or masters in Library Media for K-12 is preferred, but NOT required

    Physical Requirements:

    Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.

    If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for Sedentary Work and the worker stands and sits most of the time, the job is rated for Light Work.
