    Position Summary
    This part time position serves as receptionist, cashier and front desk attendant for the UGA Marine Education Center and Aquarium on Skidway Island, near Savannah, Georgia. The position works regular Monday-Friday hours of 8:30 am - 2:00 pm.
    The Marine Education Center and Aquarium provides marine science education programing year round to students (PK-12 and college), teachers and public visitors (area residents and tourists). This full service education facility is located along the banks of the Skidaway River on UGA's Skidaway Marine Science Campus and is open to visitors 9am-4pm Monday - Friday and 10am-5pm Saturdays. The Center includes a public aquarium and education building, dorm and cafeteria, research and teaching docks, interpretive garden and trails, public picnic area and open-air pavilion.

    This position reports directly to the administrative specialist and will work with additional team members including with the administrative assistant, center director, volunteers, interns, education, aquarium, facility and communication staff.The facility sees over 30, 000 visitors annually.

    Customer Service: Serve as receptionist for the faculty and staff working on site
    • Serve as on-site receptionist and direct inquiries received by phone, email and in person. Perform general office duties, such as answering telephone and transferring calls, taking messages, and handling routine correspondence
    • Greet visitors to the aquarium and assist with orientation to facility.
    • Ensure excellent and consistent customer service to all visitors
    • Relay group and visitor safety related information to personnel, accessibility and appropriate emergency services
    • Operate aquarium elevator and assist visitors where necessary
    • Stay informed about public programs and other Aquarium events
    • Help special fundraising events

    Cashier: Accept admission payments
    • Collect admission fee using register, Clover and UGA Market Place payment systems
    • Process basic financial transactions, including cash, check, credit /debit cards using onsite payment platforms
    • Keep records of daily visitation data for walk-in groups and daily visitation data
    • Comply with federal, state, and company policies, procedures, and regulations

    Duties/Responsibilities

    Clerical: Daily opening procedures for UGA Marine Education Center Aquarium lobby and admission area
    • Open the aquarium lobby daily using established procedures (lights, exhibits, displays, doors, raise flags)
    • Dispense and restock as needed paper and printed supplies associated with lobby operations and resource center
    • Maintain bird watching station
    • Use computers for various applications, such as database management or word processing, email responses as needed
    • Assist with general clerical duties including handling incoming and outgoing mail, making copies, securing printed public information from other agencies, coordinating the restocking of outdoor vending machine
    • Other clerical duties as assigned
