    Job Duties


    The Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services is seeking a qualified candidate to perform complex audits and financial reviews of organizations conducting charitable gaming within the Commonwealth.

    The position will also ensure that all charitable gaming is conducted in accordance with statutory and regulatory requirements as well as identify criminal activities.

    Audits include a review of financial reports submitted to the Office of Charitable and Regulatory Programs (OCRP) to confirm accountability for all gaming receipts and proper use of all charitable gaming funds.

    Duties include scheduling financial data on spreadsheets; analyzing, reconciling, and evaluating financial data; writing detailed reports of audit findings and corrective actions; and communicating audit findings and corrective actions to the charitable organization, office staff, and the courts if legal action is necessary.

    Once onboarded, this position may be eligible for telework opportunities; availability, hours, and duration of telework shall be approved as outlined in the Commonwealth's telework policy.


    Minimum Qualifications

    Comprehensive knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles, general business practices and audit techniques.

    Ability to interpret and apply statutory and regulatory requirements as well as departmental policies and procedures; interpret and present gaming requirements to designated managers/operators of charitable gaming activities to organizations at public meetings or on an individual basis; communicate effectively both orally and in writing with organizations, suppliers, and the general public; and exercise independent judgment and demonstrate problem-solving skills.

    Demonstrated ability to detect and document misappropriation of funds and other prohibited conduct by analyzing a system of internal and external controls and financial records along with recommending changes to correct found deficiencies; work with a diverse customer population; work cooperatively with others in an office environment; and work effectively under pressure during peak workloads.

    Proficiency using computers and standard business office software (MS Office) with extensive skill using Excel.

    Current experience in planning, implementing, and concluding all facets of the auditing function to ensure accountability of funds and compliance with established statutes and regulations.

    Must have (or be eligible for) and maintain a valid Virginia driver's license and have a driving record that reflects a sense of responsibility for highway safety.

    H.S Diploma/GED required.

    A combination of related education, training and experience indicating possession of the preceding knowledge, skills, and abilities to include knowledge of state laws and regulations pertaining to charitable gaming.
