    This position is responsible for collecting, identifying, inspecting, cleaning, assembling, processing and sterilizing patient care equipment and medical supplies in support of all hospital and clinical areas for the care, diagnosis and treatment of patients.

    Responsibilities

    Sterile Processing

    • Demonstrates understanding of decontamination, disinfection, inspection, assembly and sterilization procedures.
    • Demonstrates knowledge of infection control principles, Spaulding's classifications, aseptic techniques, medical/surgical procedures and terminology.
    • Demonstrates knowledge of instrumentation names and using the instructions for use to care and handle the instruments.
    • Demonstrates knowledge of use of the sterilizers and washer disinfectors.
    • Demonstrates the ability to independently perform qualification series testing on autoclaves in the Sterile Processing department.
    • Gathers, reprocesses, and delivers medical surgical equipment to all areas of the hospital.
    • Ability to follow detailed procedures. Must be able to listen to instruction, translate it into activity, and reproduce what is taught.
    • Understands and uses the appropriate level of disinfection and sterilization methods for the product being processed to ensure there is no damage to the product and to ensure there is no contamination to the environment.
    • Must be able to disassemble and assemble general instrument trays/sets for nursing units and clinics. Must be able to recognize when all instruments are in proper working order.
    • Ability to complete Case Cart assembly.

    • Demonstrates ability to meet business needs of department with regular, reliable attendance.
    • Employee maintains current licenses and/or certifications required for the position.
    • Practices and reflects knowledge of HIPAA, TJC, DNV, OSHA and other federal/state regulatory agencies guiding healthcare.
    • Completes all annual education and competency requirements within the calendar year.
    • Is knowledgeable of hospital and department compliance requirements for federally funded healthcare programs (e.g. Medicare and Medicaid) regarding fraud, waste and abuse. Brings any questions or concerns regarding compliance to the immediate attention of hospital administrative staff. Takes appropriate action on concerns reported by department staff related to compliance.

    Education:

    High School graduate

    Experience:

    Minimum training period of 1 year to become proficient in job

    Experience working with instruments in a hospital or health related field

    License(s)/Certification(s):

    Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) Certification

    Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

    • Must possess excellent communication skills
    • Must be able to read, write, speak and comprehend English fluently
    • Demonstrate a thorough understanding of decontamination and sterilization processes
    • Demonstrate a thorough knowledge of infection control principles
    • Demonstrate a thorough knowledge of surgical grade instrumentation names, and care and handling techniques
    • Must have knowledge and ability to use computer applications

    · Demonstrates the ability to use office equipment such as computers, printers, scanners, and software for timekeeping, education, Human Resource information, the event reporting system, and the email system
