    STARTING PAY: $36,059 - $62,083

    SUMMARY

    Under general supervision, this position plans, coordinates, markets, implements, supervises and evaluates athletic leagues, tournaments and related special events and activities within the Parks and Recreation Department with emphasis on adult sports. Duties include initiating and implementing department goals and objectives; performing a variety of professional tasks in support of assigned areas of responsibility; supervising employees and overseeing the work of contract employees; preparing and overseeing revenues and expenditures from fee-based performance budgets; maintaining a positive relationship with private sports organizations; and allocating city field resources among those organizations.

    ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Develops and plans athletic leagues and tournaments.
    • Schedules athletic leagues, tournaments and officials.
    • Implements policies and procedures for various functions of the department.
    • Prepares marketing for leagues, programs and tournaments.
    • Approves expenditures for all programs.
    • Recruits, hires or contracts, trains and motivates all personnel with department.
    • Prepares bids for equipment and awards for programs and tournaments.
    • Prepares reports and provides information for park maintenance to coordinate the use and maintenance of fields and courts.
    • Prepares league by-laws, rules and procedures for each sport each season.
    • Evaluates athletic programs and procedures through feedback and surveys and makes changes for the betterment of the program.
    • Develops and maintains effective working relationships with youth sports providers and allocated field usage.
    • Prepares reports, data and statistical reports for department director and parks and recreation board.
    • Works with professional organizations for certification of officials, registration of teams and sanctioning of tournaments.
    • Visits sports facilities in the evening hours to evaluate athletic programs.
    • Responds to emergency calls for assistance.
    • Recruits, trains, schedules and supervises sports officials for athletic leagues; maintains activity and accounting records and processes payments for sports officials.
    • Processes fees and payments following appropriate cash handling procedures.
    • Updates schedules and standings appropriate software, and sends out correspondence to the leagues as needed.
    • Prepares maintenance reports for the use of the athletic facilities and parks, as needed.
    • Prepares marketing materials and promotes the athletic leagues to the community.
    • Accounts for the property and equipment of the sports facilities.
    • Interacts with the public and provides high levels of customer service by responding to and solving complaints and problems and providing general information and guidance, as requested.
    • Prepares and manages of the annual budget, orders supplies and equipment for the department, authorizes purchases for up to $1,000 without the need for supervisory approval, and makes program and facility related recommendations that impact the budget
    • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

    Bachelor's Degree preferred in a related field or a combination of education and experience equivalent to three years of experience. CPR, AED, and First Aid Certification preferred. Valid Texas Driver's License required.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
    • Ability to use small office equipment, including copy machines or multi-line telephone systems, computers for data entry and word processing and/or accounting purposes.
    • Ability to work with the public and skill in dealing with contentious clients.
    • Ability to lead and direct the work of officials, scorekeepers and contractors.
    • Ability to utilize software and programs implemented by the department.
