    Job purpose

    The BorgWarner Arden campus offers two world class technical centers and a cutting-edge manufacturing facility that designs and produces turbos, fan, and fan drive components for the automotive industry.

    The Arden campus offers a multitude of career opportunities and is in the beautiful mountains of Western North Carolina.
    The Senior Manufacturing Engineering position will be a SME in process design with some electrical engineering experience a plus. This role will work collaboratively with Global teams from design engineering, component suppliers as well as Manufacturing engineers.

    The primary function of this role will be to develop new processes and or to industrialize the Energy Transition Projects product line(s) as well as support production launch and subsequent continuous improvement activities.

    Understanding manufacturing engineering processes and new technologies, especially around assembly, balancing, and end of line testing is preferred.

    Some financial make versus buy scenarios will need to be completed to determine where and how to best accomplish the process.

    The Senior Manufacturing Engineer collaborates Globally to establish Global manufacturing standards.
    Key responsibilities

    Candidate will be a member of a cross-functional team being responsible for Manufacturing engineering functions at BorgWarner.

    Collaborate with Engineering Groups and support developing the Energy Transition Projects and / or similar products.

    Collaborate with R & D Globally to develop Engineering guidelines and standards.

    Develop manufacturing strategies that provides maximum operational flexibility with minimal investments.


    Actively drive DFM/A to ensure the products and processes are cost effective and robust both internally and with the supply base as applicable.

    Strong emphasis on developing a new process and bringing to implementation.

    Experience with Turbocharger assembly & balancing. Performance testing is a plus

    Focal point for manufacturing technical discussions with cross functional team, management and customers.

    Development of Energy Transition Projects assembly & test equipment concepts, and developing of equipment specifications

    Collaborate globally in developing the Equipment SOW and acceptance criteria of the equipment.


    Engage with early design and prototypes to learn from and ensure lessons learned are applied to ensure a successful launch at the plant.

    Develop Manufacturing Standards and base job descriptions to train plant personnel.

    Lead APQP activities for New Product Launch both internally and at supply base as needed.

    Problem solving skills

    Basic financial concepts

    Manufacturing experience:
    high and low product mix level of automation

    Error proofing understanding in manufacturing processes

    What we're looking for

    Bachelor's degree in an Engineering discipline required

    5+ years' experience, with the majority in manufacturing engineering

    Knowledge of turbochargers & turbocharger assembly is preferred

    Understanding of the APQP process is required

    Experience in servo press applications is a plus

    Experience with Vision systems is a plus

    Experience with high-speed balancing of flexible rotors is a plus

    Experience with DC electric torque systems is a plus

    Experience with Lift Assist for large size heavy component & system assembly is preferred

    Knowledge of TIG, Plasma, Laser & or EB Welding is a plus

    Understanding of Pneumatic & Hydraulic systems is a plus

    Experience with Motor winding and assembly, Potting and solder operations are a plus.

    Experience in electrical assembly environment:
    ESD, PCB assembly and handling is a plus

    Working knowledge of Allen Bradley PLC programming is a plus

    Working knowledge of BorgWarner-PCS is a plus

    Knowledge of SAP system is a plus

    Working knowledge of Minitab (Statistical Analysis) is a plus

    knowledge of automation and robotics is a plus

    Financial understanding, basic ROI, ability to accomplish a make versus buy analysis

    The ability to travel 30% of the time

    Attendance on the job is essential

    Must be able to work in a team environment

    Must be able to follow instructions, safety rules and regulations

    2+ years of experience managing engineering projects within deadlines is preferred

    2+ years of experience in concept development & capital equipment cost estimation is preferred
