    Job Summary

    The Pharmacy Technician Trainee assist the pharmacists and other hospital staff in providing the safest and highest quality care to patients.

    This will be accomplished by applying training, knowledge, and specialized skills to the medication management process.

    Works as a team with pharmacists and other pharmacy technicians as well as assists nursing staff as needed to provide an integrated multidisciplinary service.

    Job Specific Responsibilities
    Daily assignments may include but are not limited to:


    • Accurately process medication orders and requests, gather and dispense medications, and
    deliver drugs to appropriate units.


    • Help control inventory in the pharmacy.
    • Maintain all pharmacy logs daily.
    • Maintain work and break areas in a clean, orderly, and safe manner.
    • Maintain good relations with UMC and non-UMC personnel.
    • Clean work area at the beginning and end of each shift
    • Clean break room as needed
    • Answer the phones, screen calls for pharmacists, provide information (within realm of licensing
    ability) in a manner consistent with the "Standards of Excellence


    • All other assigned duties related to Pharmacy Compliance
    Education and Experience-


    • Graduation from high school or equivalent. Will give secondary consideration to any combination of training and experience which requires accuracy, concentration, and discipline.
    Required Licensures/Certifications/Registrations


    • Registration with the Texas State Board of Pharmacy as a pharmacy technician trainee is required. Technician certification and registration with the Texas State Board of Pharmacy as a certified pharmacy technician is required within two years of service.
    Skills and Abilities-


    • Demonstrated combination of training and experience that requires concentration, accuracy, and discipline
    • Excellent communication skills, both verbally and in writing
    • Basic knowledge of medical terminology
    Interaction with Other Departments and Other Relationships
    Daily interaction with other staff within the Pharmacy department. Works closely with clinics, nursing units, EMS, and other hospital staff as required

    Physical Capabilities
    Work is of light demand; involves lots of walking on the health center campus. Must possess near visual acuity to read documents and computer records. Ability to lift up to 10pounds.

    Environmental/Working Conditions
    This position is subject to inside environmental changes that may include constant change in temperatures. Hours of duty may be irregular to accommodate departmental
