DEFINITION OF POSITION:

Clinical Laboratory Manager is responsible to the Medical Director and the Chief Operating Officer. As a working manager, directs, develops, implements and controls the operations of the Clinical Laboratory Services. Maintains a qualified laboratory staff and insures that adequate staffing needs are met. Provides training to laboratory staff where necessary. Maintains Quality Control, instrument and laboratory operational records. Performs phlebotomy and technical duties as needed. Manages and maintains the Laboratory Information System. Performs technical duties providing laboratory results and phlebotomy specimen collection services. Acts as a client service representative to patients and provider offices.

Responsibilities:

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Evidence of continuing education appropriate for the skill level and specific areas of practice.
Demonstrates the ability to perform in technical, clerical and interpersonal aspects of clinical lab services.
Must be able to lift 50 lbs maximum, frequently lifts and/or carries objects weighing up to 25 lbs.
Ability to communicate effectively.
Able to perform laboratory test processing and understand differences in reference ranges of results from specimens received from pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients.
Must be able to identify, match, and distinguish colors.

Qualifications:

QUALIFICATIONS:

Qualifies by education, certification, or registry as a medical technologist with at least a minimum of 5 years experience.
Qualifies by education, experience and/or certification/registry as a technical supervisor with at least five years of supervisory experience.
Ability to meet lifting classification.
Professional appearance and great work ethic.
Willingness to learn and use TQM principles.

Bilingual and/or English-Spanish speaking preferred. Ability to work with culturally diverse population.
