    Engineer/Computer Systems Analyst


    This position provides operation support for a dedicated 24x7x365 call center responsible for monitoring and first level triage of mission critical computer systems used to operate the electric power grid.

    The successful candidate will help support the EMS Support Center execution by administering processes and procedures used by ESC desk operators to provide frontline support for critical computer systems.

    This position is responsible for supporting reports through the EMS incident management tool and other process automation tools to support the ESC function.

    The successful candidate will work with the supervisor to provide day to day engagement with the EMS Support Center desk operators.

    Relocation assistance is available.


    Required Skills and Knowledge:
    Requires knowledge of computer systems and application support

    Requires excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively in both an oral and written manner

    Ability to multitask and prioritize tasks based on criticality and operational impact to the Bulk Power system

    Requires attention to details and procedure adherence even under pressure

    Working knowledge of BMC Remedy and Smart Reporting is preferred

    Working knowledge of Windows, Linux, and AIX UNIX based operating systems preferred

    Working knowledge of SCADA systems (Spectrum Power 3 or OSI Monarch) is a plus

    Understanding of distributed computer networks is a plus

    Basic programming skills are a plus

    Must be able to obtain Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) and Insider Threat Program (ITP) security clearance


    Experience and Education:
    Degree in Computer Science/Engineering or equivalent experience

    Experience supporting and troubleshooting computer systems is a plus

    General understanding of computer system infrastructure, operations, and security

    Knowledge of electric utility transmission operations is a plus

    Must have a customer focused attitude and the desire and ability to learn about the Transmission core business and its needs.

    Must have analytical, problem solving, and troubleshooting skills.

    Ability to handle multiple tasks with competing priorities as well as delegation skills.

    Ability to bring consensus and buy-in among people with different views and agendas.

    Ability to grasp complex Energy Management Systems operational issues, risk factors, and business drivers.

    Willingness to be on call as needed 24x7

    Willingness to adhere to stringent federal and corporate requirements regarding how work is performed and security of EMS systems and information

    Travel (10% of time) to attend Southern Company functions and other relevant industry meetings and events
