    About this Role:

    The Accountant I/II plays a vital role in supporting the financial operations at FamilyCore, following established procedures and protocols to promote the mission at FamilyCore. The Accountant I/II role entails responsibilities for maintaining accurate financial records, ensuring that financial transactions are properly recorded, preparing financial reports, payroll operations with systems input and upkeep, and ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and policies. This position requires a detail-oriented individual with strong analytical skills, a commitment to the organization's mission, and follows Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)..

    Responsibilities:

    • Financial Reporting:
      • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for management and board of directors.
      • Assist in the preparation of budgets and forecasts.
      • Analyze financial data and provide insights to support decision-making.
    • General Accounting:
      • Maintain general ledger and ensure accuracy of financial transactions.
      • Assist in the day-to-day financial operations of the agency.
      • Ensures the accuracy of entries to ledger accounts and reconciles subsidiary ledger accounts to the general ledger.
      • Prepares and provides accurate bills for all contracted services and grants that generate revenue for the organization.
      • Reconcile bank statements and other financial accounts.
      • Prepare journal entries and maintain supporting documentation.
    • Grants Management:
      • Assist in the preparation of grant proposals and budgets.
      • Monitor grant expenditures and ensure compliance with grant requirements.
      • Prepare financial reports for grantors and assist in grant audits.
    • Compliance:
      • Ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards, tax regulations, and internal policies.
      • Assist in the preparation of annual audits and tax filings.
      • Support compliance related projects and Regulatory / Board Reporting.
      • Stay updated on changes in accounting regulations and best practices.
    • Process Improvement:
      • Identify opportunities for process improvements to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
      • Recommend and implement changes to accounting procedures as needed.
    • Payroll Operations
      • Maintain employment records for payroll operations related to events, such as hiring, termination, leaves, or promotions.
      • Analyze employment-related data and prepare required reports.
      • Provides payroll management subject matter expertise in processing, for the agency and compliance with all laws and accreditation standards..
    • Perform organizational and programmatic tasks as needed.
    • Assist with data entry and record management functions as needed to ensure accurate and up-to-date information.
    • Adhere to standards adopted through Council on Accreditation.
    • Maintain confidentiality in all communications in accordance with Council on Accreditation and regulatory bodies.
    • Develop and maintain working relationships with all internal and external clients.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

    Requirements:

    Education and Experience:

    • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. CPA or relevant certification preferred.
    • 2+ years of experience in accounting or financial management, preferably in a non-profit organization.
    • An appropriate combination of education and experience will be considered.

    Competency:

    • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, NetSuite) and Microsoft Excel.
    • Strong understanding of accounting principles and practices.
    • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Proficient in MS Office Suite.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
    • Strong interpersonal, problem solving, and teamwork skills.
    • Working knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local law and regulations, contractual obligations as pertains to finance and personnel management.
    • Ability to organize and maintain data and confidential information.
    • Ability to set and maintain professional boundaries with staff.
    • Must pass required background check with Illinois Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS).
    • Must pass background checks with Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) Health Care Worker Registry, and Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family Services OIG Provider Sanctions.
    • Successfully complete FamilyCore training as required.
    • Utilize time tracking software and all other software required to fulfill duties.
    • Ability to be sensitive and understanding of cultural and lifestyle differences of all people regardless of race, religion, sexual orientation, age, or background.
    • Must possess valid Illinois Driver's in good standing, and proof of valid vehicle insurance.

    Physical:

    • Frequent standing, grasping, fingering, and lifting, pulling and pushing up to 10 lbs.
    • Regular sitting, walking, reaching, and reaching overheard.
    • Occasional stooping and other physical activities related to an office environment.
    • Operate general office equipment, including multi-line phone, fax machine, printer, copier, scanner, laminator, and personal computer, with or without dual screens.
    • Perform all job requirements with or without reasonable accommodation.

    Work Environment:

    • Work occurs primarily in an office environment. Occasionally exposed to loud noise and outdoor weather conditions.
    • May be subject to distraction and interruptions.
