    We currently have an exciting opportunity as a Plant Manager. This role is based in our facility in Asheville, North Carolina and reports to the Director of Manufacturing, Extrusion, Eastern US.

    Job Summary

    The Plant Manager is responsible for the overall management of IPEX operations in their assigned facility. Plant operation accountabilities include production, logistics, quality and maintenance while ensuring compliance with all labour, safety, environmental, ISO and corporate policies and regulations. Partnering with key business stakeholders the role is accountable to collaborate on the delivery of all operational and strategic initiatives. The role is fully accountable for annual budget performance and has full responsibility for the production output of the facility including the quality of finished goods, KPI target achievement, continuous improvement and site safety. Additionally, the position is accountable for people strategy and talent development at all levels.

    Principal Responsibilities


    •Promote, maintain and lead a safety culture focused on zero workplace injuries throughout the facility. Accountable to ensure reporting of all near misses, hazardous conditions and first aid incidents to HSE business partners and collaborate on ongoing preventative projects.


    • Lead and empower team members by setting clear expectations in performance management, training and coaching. Creating people strategies including attraction and retention plans, succession planning, development plans and training requirements.


    • Interpret strategies to build and implement plans to ensure products are manufactured efficiently and to a high quality. Own the attainment of key information to build long term resolutions and corrective actions to establish and sustain a culture of continuous improvement.


    • Develop plans and strategies applying production forecasts and resources to achieve agreed labor and machine efficiency levels. Meet conversion cost, material variance and scrap reduction goals.


    • Own the implementation of outstanding practices and projects aimed at cost reduction and efficient process control.


    • Accountable to maintain adherence to internal and external standards for the manufacturing product lifecycle.


    • Partner with business to establish processes and organizational structures to meet compliance requirements for all appropriate regulatory bodies.


    • Lead and liaise with key business partners on the strategy, implementation and team centred on programs and processes leading all aspects of general machine and facility maintenance.


    • Partner with innovation team to facilitate the industrialization of innovation projects through analysis and testing of new product development ideas in the plant.


    • Responsible for the movement of completed product and materials ensuring regulatory compliance where required.


    • Lead the processes for the creation and delivery of key administrative functions; including month-end reporting, annual budgeting, capital expenditure evaluations and documentation of internal management systems.

    Health, Safety & Environment Responsibilities


    • Ensure compliance with federal, provincial and local legislative requirements


    • Ensure the occupational Health and Safety policy is signed and dated, outlining commitment and responsibilities of all members of the workplace


    • Review all policies, procedures and work instructions related to health, safety and environment annually, to ensure effectiveness of the health and safety program


    • Appoint proficient Supervisors/Managers who are familiar with legislated safety requirements


    • Take every precaution reasonable in the circumstance for the protection of a worker


    • Ensure site-specific procedures and work instructions are developed and implemented


    • Establish training needs and supply training for all members of the workplace to ensure knowledge and understanding for the safe operation of daily activities


    • Apply Refusal to Work Procedure when applicable and ensure enforcement of this standard


    • Attend Management Training as defined in HSE 27.0 and the plant training matrix


    • Partake in scheduled audits to ensure compliance with HSEMS & ISO (Reference HSE 44.0; Quality Systems Manual Volumes 1 & 2) and ensure all compliance recommendations are accurately addressed and closed.


    • Participate in Environmental Impact Analysis process and supervise implementation of controls for significant risks (Reference HSE 58.0)


    • Participate in training on how to effectively investigate an accident/incident as outlined in HSE 11.0. Review investigations for completeness and merit of recommendations


    • Approve Personal Protective Equipment programs, provide Personal Protective Equipment and ensure location compliance


    • Approve results of engineering reviews of planned changes to buildings, equipment, processes or procedures. Participate in reviews of major projects


    • Evaluate effectiveness of location group Health and Safety meetings


    • Approve purchase orders for safety and environmental supplies


    • Review and approve the site Environmental Policy and Fire Safety Plan on an annual basis


    • Approve site Emergency Response Plan


    • Approve standards for pre-placement requirements for new hires


    • Approve location risk Management and Pollution Prevention Plan, Quality Plan and Contractor Safety Plan


    • Review and approve all HSEMS internal/CHSE audit action plans


    • Responsible for implementation and compliance of: HSE 4.0 Planned Inspections and HSEMS Preventative Action Process, HSE 21.0 First Aid, HSE 29.0 Required Postings


    • Lead the capital budget expenditures for the facility. Ensure that budgets are met and variances are explained


    • Conduct and maintain detailed surveys in compliance with HSE 13.0 Machine Guarding and EMP Section 1.6. Participate in the creation and implementation of action plans


    • Provide resources for risk identification and evaluation process. Approve local procedures for follow-up of corrective actions

    Qualifications & Experience

    Education & Certificates


    • Completion of a University degree in a technical or business related discipline or equivalent experience.

    Technical Skills & Experience


    • Minimum of 10 years management experience; holding a cross section of functional roles preferred.


    • Experience balancing multiple priorities and leading change.


    • Experience in strategic planning, resource allocation, employee relations, leadership techniques and coordination of people and resources.


    • Consistent record of improving performance in a leadership role.


    • Experience and/or familiarity with Lean projects.


    • Experience and strong understanding of budgeting/expense management with a basic understanding of financial and accounting practices


    • Technical understanding of production planning techniques, current quality standards, lean manufacturing and safety requirements/laws (ISO 9001, Six Sigma, 5S, etc.)


    • Knowledge of health, safety, and environmental practices in a manufacturing environment


    • Knowledge and ability to understand the process of machinery


    • Knowledge of injection moulding equipment and fabrication combined with experience in a plastic manufacturing environment


    • Demonstrated success in leading lean/six sigma projects
