    ABOUT CITYWALK BHAM:

    The recent completion of Birmingham's I-59/20 Central Business District (CBD) Interstate bridges brings about a renewed focus on the space underneath the bridges known as City Walk BHAM. The goal of City Walk BHAM is to provide a space to assist in reconnecting Birmingham and create a destination and common area open to all citizens.

    City Walk BHAM spans 10 city blocks, from 15th St N to 25th St N – almost a mile in length. The entire area encompasses 31 acres, which will provide a space to assist in connecting Birmingham. For more information visit

    Summary/Objective
    The CityWalk Coordinator is responsible for supporting the day-to-day operations and event activities of CWB. The incumbent is responsible for assisting the CWB management with the operations of facilities in line with the goals and objectives. Responsibilities include maintaining safe and clean CWB facilities and delivering exceptional customer service.

    At the direction of the CWB Operations Director the CWB Coordinator will assist the event manager with managing, planning, and executing events in the venue.

    Essential Duties/Responsibilities

    Demonstrates understanding and full performance ability in each of the following:

    • Routinely works wherever required to ensure smooth operations of CWB. This may include but is not limited to completing work traditionally assigned to an Ambassador, Barkery Dog Park Attendant, or other CWB positions.
    • Responsible for ensuring staff maintain venue cleanliness including the restroom, trails, pathways, and all other venue amenities as well as waste-can servicing and litter removal.
    • Ensures all aspects of the venue grounds, playground equipment, pathways, and infrastructure are well maintained, inspected, clean, safe, and maintained efficiently.
    • Demonstrate ownership of assigned work by upholding and maintaining standards to the highest degree by understanding CWB aesthetic and standard operating procedures.
    • Communicate issues concerning venue infrastructure, furnishings, safety hazards, quality of the venue user experience issues as needed.
    • Act on behalf of the CWB Operations manager and/or the CWB Operations Director as required.
    • Works collaboratively and creatively with CWB and BJCC leadership in a team-first environment.
    • Interact with CWB visitors courteously and professionally. Ensuring team members are trained and adhering accordingly. Offering guests pertinent accurate information.
    • Responsible for recommending and enforcing CWB rules, safety policies, and procedures including appropriate use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
    • Re-enforcing safety training as required, ensuring compliance with safety protocol.
    • Establishes and maintains relationships and works constructively and cooperatively with internal teammates and partners.
    • Assist in determining the need to temporarily close areas deemed unsafe either by staff or outside contractors.
    • Supports the growth of CWB venue and program developments and initiatives.
    • Assist in identifying and engaging priority external partners to build organization relationships in priority community and mission areas.
    • Support planning and coordination of an event and its activities.
    • Assist with community partners and internal stakeholders to create and deliver quality venue programs.
    • Monitors activities to ensure the external customer-facing program objectives are met within established time frames, service expectations, and budgets.
    • Builds and maintains a positive relationship within the team and external partners.
    • At the direction of the CWB Operations Director ensures administration of policies and practices related to event coordination.
    • Ensure standards for product, equipment, service quality, and operator performance are maintained.
    • Establishes and maintains relationships and works constructively and cooperatively with internal teammates and partners.
    • Acts of behalf of CWB operations team in relations to the daily CWB coordination of successful events, venue operations and event programming requirements as required and appropriate.
    • Serves as the event point of contact in the absence of the event manager.
    • Support CWB operations and event department with administrative tasks such as making copies, developing spreadsheets, and writing business correspondence.
    • Performs other duties as required.

    Work Environment
    This position may have a moderate to extensive stress level associated with dealing with crowds of public visitors. Must be able to work under pressure for extended periods of time. The environment is mainly outdoors, exposed to the elements (heat, rain, etc.).

    Physical Demands

    Position requires lifting, climbing, carrying, bending, stooping, squatting, and kneeling for extended periods of time. Extensive walking and or standing. Ability to lift up to 50lbs items with or without assistance, while maintaining good balance. Must be flexible enough to reach above shoulder level and be able to push and pull for brief periods of time. Visual acuity, speech recognition, and speech clarity.

    Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
    This is a full-time position; hours of work must be flexible and varied to meet the demands of the events of the facility. Must be able to work extended and/or irregular hours including day, nights, weekends, and holidays, as needed.

    Required Education and Experience

    • Minimum of three (3) years of related knowledge, experience, and skills in customer service, park operations, and working with the public, with at least one (1) year of supervisory experience in a related field is preferred.
    • Associate degree or bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with emphasis in public relations, business administration, related field, or a combination of experience and some college. Industry certification(s) preferred.
    • Valid State of Alabama Driver License.

    • Ability to understand oral and written instructions in English.
    • Excellent oral communication, written communication, fluency in English, and active listening.
    • Demonstrate the ability to interact with the public in a professional, positive, and confident manner.
    • Working knowledge of the occupational hazards and applicable safety precautions associated with assigned work.
    • Effectively manage conflict diplomatically and professionally.
    • Strong conflict-resolution and problem-solving skills.
    • Exceptional attention to detail and observational skills.
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office software, including Outlook, PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Teams, and Publisher.
