Primary Duties/Brief Description of Work:
The Lead Signal Technician performs professional, skilled electrical work, advanced utility line construction duties, heavy and light equipment operation duties, and other technical duties including the construction, operation, inspection, troubleshooting, maintenance and repair of traffic signals, computerized control equipment, pedestrian signal devices, communication systems, electrical and electronic signs, CCTV cameras and controls, modems, radio equipment, wireless devices, networking devices and other related electrical, electronic and mechanical devices.
This employee will have duties that include assisting the unit supervisor through daily oversight of the Traffic Signal Technicians engaged in traffic signal construction and by giving direct on-site technical and safety instructions; ensuring that work assignments are proceeding according to plans and resolving problems as necessary; training of new employees in equipment operation and signal construction; and maintaining vehicle and warehouse inventory and supplies.
This employee will be required to operate a variety of electrical and electronic test equipment, motorized construction equipment, aerial lift trucks, and hand and power tools.
Work is performed in an outdoor environment and requires working in and around traffic, in inclement weather, and in contact with dirt, dust, and fumes.
The physical duties include:
stooping, bending, overhead reaching, heavy lifting (50lbs), and climbing ladders up to 10 feet. Due to the nature of work assignments, incumbents are exposed to live electricity. Women and minorities are encouraged to apply.
