    Description

    Position Summary:


    Analyzes patients' fitness in order to help them improve their health or maintain good health. Assists patients with heart disease and other chronic conditions, like diabetes or pulmonary (lung) disease, to regain their health. May also work with amateur and professional athletes to boost their performance or recover from injuries.

    Provides a full range of exercise physiology services, including assessment, treatment planning and therapeutic interventions in an interdisciplinary environment consistent with professional practices and ethical standards.


    Essential Functions and Responsibilities as Assigned:


    • Evaluates a person's overall health with special attention to cardiovascular function and metabolism.
    • Conducts diagnostic procedures like exercise stress tests to evaluate patients' health.
    • Develops individualized exercise prescriptions to increase physical fitness, strength, endurance and flexibility.
    • Designs customized exercise programs to meet health care needs and athletic performance goals.
    • Administers exercise prescriptions designed to improve mobility and flexibility, hasten recovery from injury and help patients live with disabilities.
    • Advises patients about nutrition and ongoing exercise regimens; may teach classes and conduct research.

    Position/Subsidiary Specific:

    Mclaren Cardiovascular Group - Cardiac Device Oversight


    • In collaboration with physician, performs the technical management of implanted cardiac pacemaker and ICD devices.

    Cardiac device oversight may include the following duties:

    • Assesses patient for device/rhythm related issues. Assessment includes presenting or recent symptoms, and pertinent history.
    • Performs basic interrogation and adjustments to programming per protocol or specific order and troubleshoots basic, intermediate and advanced device issues.

    Analyzes device function including:
    pacemaker, ICD, IRL, parameters, testing of sensing and capture for each lead, lead integrity and battery status.


    • Completes documentation of the assessment, intervention, and patient response to care provided.
    • Demonstrates advanced and in depth knowledge/understanding of device technology, purpose of the device implant, expected alteration in clinical condition, and potential device-related causes for patient symptoms.
    • Maintains technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reading professional publications; participating in department programs.
    8.. Performs other related duties as required and directed.


    Required:


    • Bachelor's degree in exercise science or physiology.
    • BLS certified within 30 days of hire.

    Preferred:


    • Certification through the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) and the American Society of Exercise Physiologists (ASEP).
    • Master's degree.
