    Day in the Life of a Community EMS Clinician:

    The Community EMS (CEMS) Clinician functions as an interdependent member of the Cheyenne Regional Health Systems (Cheyenne Regional) patient care team. This position serves as a resource and point of contact to providers, care teams, and CEMS staff. CEMS Clinicians supplement and support provider patient care in a home environment.

    Here's what you will be doing:


    • Provides comprehensive, safe, and efficient in-home care to patients as requested by a provider and in lieu of emergency department visit or hospital admission.


    • Conducts an extensive evaluation of the patient's medical and social history to develop care recommendations and optimize treatment plans or care transitions.


    • Conducts home visits to perform physical exams, medication review/reconciliation, environmental safety checks, and determination of social support systems. Reports findings to referring provider.


    • Provides at home treatments and diagnostic testing under the direction of a provider and within scope of license.


    • Administers fluids and medication via intravenous, IM, SQ, oral, and aerosolized methods and performs basic wound care as appropriate and within scope of license.


    • Documents patient related information into chart or electronic health record (EHR).


    • Utilizes virtually enabled diagnostic equipment, including but not limited to otoscope, stethoscope, and tongue blade.


    • Collects laboratory specimens, performs point-of-care testing, and utilizes appropriate equipment in the collection of vital signs and ECG data.


    • Interprets data, reads monitors, and responds with the correct intervention to ensure optimum patient care, safety, and recovery.


    • Promotes healthy behaviors through education and counseling and assists patients in overcoming barriers to achieving goals.


    • Leads interdisciplinary huddles to prioritize patient need and promote cross functional communication across multiple care teams.


    • Participates in rounds and clinical case conferences to communicate short- and long-term care recommendations.


    • Participates in process and quality improvement initiatives.


    • Serves as a resource for providers, care teams, and other CEMS employees.


    • Adheres to rules and regulations governing limitations of practice.

    Desired skills:


    • Ability to interact respectfully with diverse cultural and socio-economic populations.


    • Basic knowledge of alternative payment models (value-based versus fee-for-service).


    • Verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.


    • Ability to maintain a safe environment for patients.


    • Knowledge of emergency medicine, chronic disease, anatomy, pathophysiology, and pharmacology.


    • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.


    • Ability to handle crisis situations quickly and calmly.


    • Ability to work in a fast-paced and continually changing environment.


    • Knowledge and understanding of restricted functions whether or not function is supervised by a licensed physician.

    Here's what you will need:


    • Wyoming EMT-B certificate, or Wyoming A-EMT certificate, or Wyoming EMT-I, or Wyoming Paramedic license.


    • Community EMS Clinician endorsement on EMT certificate.


    • Three (3) or more years of clinical experience


    • Valid USA driver's license


    • Must have clean driving record that follows Cheyenne Regional Medical Center's driving guidelines.


    • Must be 21 years of age or older (for insurance purposes)


    • Cheyenne Regional AHA RQI within 14 calendar days of start date


    • AHA ACLS

    Nice to have:


    • Community EMS experience


    • NREMT


    • IBSC certification CPC-C endorsement
