    TITLE: Year-Round Program Summer Essentials Teacher (Art, Music, PE/Health, Technology, Dance, Media Arts, Theater)
    REPORTS TO: Principal/Director or designee

    SUPERVISES: Teacher aides and volunteers assigned

    TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Six-week summer session of the year-round program. Days and hours TBD. Up 6 hours instructional time per week. Multiple positions available.
    PRIMARY FUNCTION: To help students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their development as mature, able, responsible citizens.
    TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
    This description of the position of Essentials Teacher is for identification and administrative purposes only. It is not intended to be a complete statement of all duties, which may be assigned or adjusted by the Superintendent of Schools according to varying needs.

  • Guide the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals.
  • Prepare and carry out plans for instruction which meet the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students.
  • Employ appropriate instructional methods and materials.
  • Utilize available computer technology in instructional settings.
  • Evaluate and follow up on student progress on a regular basis.
  • Emphasize competency in the basic skills.
  • Maintain a classroom environment conductive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of students.
  • Establish a positive climate for learning by encouraging all students to do well and to develop responsibility for learning.
  • Consult with colleagues, students, and parents to improve student learning as deemed necessary, seek assistance of school specialists for students with special learning needs.
  • Assist the administration in implementing policies, rules, and regulations covering student life and conduct.
  • Develop reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedures and maintain order in the classroom.
  • Seek to maintain and improve professional competence.
  • Performs such other related tasks as the principal may assign.
    • REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • As set by the State certification requirements (042, 043, 044, 047, 049, 062, 483, 485)
    • PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bilingual (English and Spanish)

    • PERFORMANCE EVALUATION: Annually by Principal or Designee
    SALARY: $40/hour for instructional time, $35/hour for planning time per NLEA contract.
