    What is Job Corps? It is the country's most extensive nationwide residential career training program and has been operating for over 60 years. The program helps eligible young people ages 16 through 24 complete their high school education, trains them for meaningful careers, and assists them with obtaining employment. Job Corps has trained and educated over two million individuals since 1964.

    Oneonta Job Corps offers training in the Medical Trades: Certified Nursing Assistant, Certified Medical Assistant, and Medical Administrative Assistant. Automobile Trades: Auto Body Collision and Repair, Auto Mechanics, and Auto Technology. Construction Trades: Tile Setting, Cement Mason, and Electrical. Advanced Trades: Overhead Line Electrical, Rural Underground Distribution, SMART Meter, and Drone Piloting.

    Position Available: Substitute (Part-Time) Driver with CDL Passenger Endorsement.

    Position Schedule: Tuesday and Wednesday 7:30am-4:30pm, and on-call as needed

    Duties & Responsibilities:

    • Be responsible for safely operating the Government Vehicles, to transport students to and from off-center appointments, and other destinations as assigned
    • Check the condition of a vehicle's tires, brakes, windshield wipers, lights, oil, fuel, water, and safety equipment, to ensure that everything is in good working order
    • Report any bus malfunctions or needed repairs, and will comply with all traffic laws, and regulations
    • Prepare and submit reports that may include the number of passengers or trips, hours worked, mileage, and/or fuel consumption
    • Assist the Safety/Transportation Supervisor in routine safety duties, which include interactions with the students

    Note: This job description is not all-inclusive. You will complete other related and assigned duties to meet the ongoing needs of the center and the organization.

    Skills & Competencies:

    • Working knowledge of basic vehicle operations
    • Demonstrated knowledge of vehicle safety practices, inspection, and maintenance
    • Knowledge of traffic and highway safety rules and regulations
    • Strong attention to detail
    • Good decision making skills
    • The ability to understand and carry out oral and written directions
    • Effective communication skills; both verbal and written
    • The ability to relate to students
    • Proficiency with computer software such as Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.

    Education Requirements:

    • High School Diploma or equivalent, and one year experience in driving passenger vehicles
    • Must possess a valid Commercial Driver's license (CDL) with endorsement, with an acceptable driving record

    • Sitting, standing, and moving about, or walking for occasional or frequent periods
    • Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard and other office equipment
    • Kneeling, bending at the waist, stooping and reaching overhead
    • Retrieving and storing files and supplies
    • Occasionally carrying and/or lifting light objects

    • May be subject to irregular work schedules
    • Driving a vehicle (bus, van, auto) in variable traffic and weather conditions
