    AbbVie's growing Genetic Medicine group at Abbvie South San Francisco is seeking a highly motivated Associate Scientist/Scientist to apply cutting-edge technologies to deliver innovative new therapies.

    The successful candidate will develop productive collaborations within Genetic Medicine Group and closely work with scientists with Oncology Discovery in a fast-paced environment.

    As an integral member of the Genetic Medicine Group, this individual will be critical in activities related to lipid nanoparticle (LNP)-RNA production, optimization, and characterization. The successful candidate is expected to have hands-on experience to produce and evaluate LNPs with the aim of supporting pipeline projects . As one of the key team members this individual will work with the manager and scientists across different functional groups to discover and develop next generation non-viral genetic medicine. You will be relied on as a technical contributor to assess the assigned tasks that involve direct application of your knowledge. The candidate will need to have excellent verbal and written skills and the ability to clearly present scientific concepts and results.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Help in producing, and characterizing lipid based nucleic acid formulations to support internal programs.
    • The incumbent should be familiar with analytical techniques including but not limited to DLS, SDS-PAGE, ELISA, SEC, bioconjugation and nucleic acid characterization.
    • Work closely with manager and cross-functional team members on multiple projects simultaneously to collect and analyze data on a per project basis .
    • Under manager's supervision, interpret, summarize experimental data, and present experimental results at meetings as needed.
    • Assist in ordering supplies and reagents from internal inventory and external vendors necessary to support the projects.
    • Generate reliable and reproducible data in a timely manner. Read and adapt scientific literature to accomplish assignments. Demonstrate broad and versatile technical expertise within discipline.
    • Maintain data bases and laboratory electronic notebooks in compliance with the Abbvie Laboratory Notebook Policy.
    • Stay updated and in compliance on all departmental and corporate training.

    Significant Work Activities -Continuous standing for prolonged periods (more than 2 consecutive hours in an 8 hour day)

    Key Qualifications:

    • BS in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Biological Engineering, or a related field with a minimum of 3-5+ years of relevant industry experience. MS in biology, chemistry, biomedical engineering, or related field with 0-2+ years of nanoparticle design and characterization experience.
    • Laboratory hands-on experience with nucleic acid characterization and nanoparticle formulation.
    • Self-motivated, hard-working, detail-oriented, resourceful, and able to work in a fast-paced team environment.
    • Good computer skills including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and relevant scientific software such as Prism.
    • Hands on experience with chemical conjugation to lipid and analytics is a plus.
    • Hands on experience with aptamer, miRNA, siRNA and antisense RNA is a plus.
    • Having a basic understanding of immunology and cancer biology is a plus.
