    Mission Community Hospital, a 145-bed acute care facility located in the San Fernando Valley, is currently searching for

    Job Summary

    The Surgical Technician (ORT) performs services requiring technical and manual skills, under the direction of a licensed physician or a registered professional nurse. Specific areas of responsibility include setup and monitoring of sterile field, providing requested equipment during surgical procedures, assisting with positioning, transfer and transport of patient in surgical environment, and managing and operating equipment and instruments.

    This position will be primarily working with an acutely ill person through rehabilitating pediatric to geriatric patient population in a manner that demonstrates an understanding of the functional and/or developmental age of the individual served.

    Practitioner Role

    The Surgical Technician is responsible for knowing and adhering to the legal scope of certification practice, if applicable, for their particular area in the State of California.

    1. The Surgical Technician receives assignment from the coordinating RN.
    2. He/she provides direct patient/client care by which the staff member:
    3. Scrubs for all specialty cases as defined in the unit competency list.
    4. Sets up the sterile field and monitors its maintenance and reports breaks in technique to RN
    5. Contributes to the comfort and safety of the patient by assisting with effective positioning, and monitoring surgical team's activities during case.
    6. Collects and prepares all instrumentation and equipment for each case.
    7. Assists with patient transfer as directed.
    8. Assist with OR room turn around as needed.
    9. Assist with stocking of room and maintenance of inventory.
    10. Performs decontamination procedures and quality control monitoring of sterilizers per guidelines.
    11. Support perianesthesia services and Anesthetists as appropriate. When in doubt, consults with the Registered Nurse-In-Charge and/or Director.

    Collaboration must have a common purpose, coordination, effective communication and blending of unique and complimentary professional skills. It is the Surgical Technician's responsibility to participate in the collaborative process.

    The Surgical Technician receives assigned duties from a RN.

    The Surgical Technician practice recognizes the unique relationship whereby they must work cooperatively and in partnership without having "assignment" authority.

    Communication

    A Surgical Technician's primary responsibility is to communicate to all health team members through written and/or verbal communication.

    Time Management

    Time Management for a Surgical Technician includes completion of work within the shift hours and the ability to coordinate multiple needs of team members and physicians.

    Advocacy

    The Surgical Technician acts as the patient/client advocate by notifying the RN/physician of any patient concerns or issues regarding care.

    The Surgical Technician demonstrates accountability for the patient's right to considerate, private and respectful care.

    Qualifications

    General Job Requirements, Certifications & Knowledge

    • Satisfactory completion of formal surgical technology training program.
    • Current California certification Surgical Technician required.
    • BLS
    • Fire Card – within 30 days of hire
