Tooling Engineer

North Star Company is a reputable roll forming firm based on the west coast. We are currently seeking an experienced Tooling Engineer for our manufacturing facility in Gardena, California. In this role, you will be actively involved in designing and enhancing tooling, as well as maintaining existing tooling. Ideal candidates should hold a Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or a related field, possess significant professional experience in manufacturing and design, and demonstrate strong mathematical and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities:

Designing tooling, jigs, and fixtures based on part prints and schematics
Conducting tests to ensure dimensions and tolerances of finished pieces
Developing and refining finished products using various tooling processes
Clearly communicating tooling requirements to sales and production teams

Requirements & Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field preferred
Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD & T) training recommended
Extensive experience in designing and tooling parts in a professional manufacturing setting
Strong math and problem-solving abilities
Familiarity with basic drafting software
Ability to interpret part prints and schematics
Experience with Roll Forming & Punch Press tooling - HIGHLY DESIRED

Your responsibilities:

Designing, building, and modifying new and existing roll form tooling, pre-punch, and cut off dies
Managing die drawings and data according to customer part design requirements
Ensuring tool life performance
Supervising tool shop schedules, quality, and production
Collaborating with internal teams from initial designs to roll form trials for new and existing programs to optimize tooling efficiency and lifespan
Handling purchasing and tooling inventory management
Managing die component inventory
