    POSITION SUMMARY: An integralmember of the surgical team who provides support for surgeonsthroughout the operation by preparing, providing and caring forinstruments and equipment and maintaining a sterilefield.



    Requirements

    MINIMUMQUALIFICATIONS:

    EDUCATION: High schooldiploma or equivalent. Graduation from a school of SurgicalTechnology preferred.

    CERTIFICATION/LICENSES: BLScertification required prior to end of probationaryperiod.

    SKILLS:Knowledge of care and handling of instruments andequipment. Knowledge of sterilization and cleansing procedures.Ability to read, write, and communicate verbally inEnglish.

    EXPERIENCE:One year experience in an acute care hospitalsetting in the operating room or an instrument care environmentpreferred.

    NATURE OFSUPERVISION:

    -Responsible to: Manager,Surgical Services

    ENVIRONMENT:

    - Bloodborne pathogens -C

    Employee will be instructed inUniversal Precautions and Right to Know. Employee will be expectedto utilize all protective equipment available whenever there is apotential for exposure to infectious materials or hazardouschemicals. Cleaning, repair and replacement of this protectiveequipment will be furnished by the hospital. Utilizes availabletools to prevent worker injuries.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Heavyphysical effort requiring standing, walking or lifting most of theday. Requires ability to speak, hear and communicate verbal andwritten materials.
