    Stantec is seeking a Principal Civil Engineer to join our multi-disciplinary team of engineering professionals, each committed to delivering sound and strategic consulting services to a range of local, regional, state, and federal clients. The position is for those who enjoy analyzing the needs of clients and stakeholders to find viable solutions, collaborating across diverse teams, and helping to shape the future of infrastructure and design management in California.

    Your Key Responsibilities

    • Serve as Subject Matter Expert (SME), with responsibility for leading task orders leading/reviewing civil engineering flood risk management, infrastructure, and facilities designs for large scale Federal (Public) civil works and site civil for facilities projects.
    • Lead and evaluate work of the design team in developing studies, drawings, and narratives for design memoranda, layout, plans and specifications, and related computations for civil engineering designs.
    • Review and approve civil engineering design analysis, drawings and specifications for completeness, accuracy, suitability, and compliance with sound and economical engineering principles.
    • Represent Stantec at regular client meetings, evaluate and respond to questions raised by technical engineering review comments, and ensure that design satisfies the intended project purpose. Working knowledge of Projnet (Dr. Checks) is a plus.
    • Serve as Task Order Manager or Technical Project Manager for planning and coordinating civil works, infrastructure, and facilities projects from basis of design memorandum through final design, and engineering during construction.
    • Interact with clients and develop and manage scope, budget, and schedule on projects. Lead project collaboration among internal team members and clients.
    • Review completed drafts of design memoranda and final plans for technical accuracy.
    • Prepare various engineering documents such as design memoranda, contract plans, ECIFP, O&M Manuals, and as-built drawings. Working knowledge of SpecsIntact is a plus.
    • Assign and coordinate work to a multidisciplinary team to assure maximum efficiency.
    • Serve as a liaison between Stantec and Federal and/or other public agencies to develop designs for projects.
    Your Capabilities and Credentials
    • Understanding of issues related to Federal projects (US Army Corps of Engineers, Bureau of Reclamation, NAVFAC, etc.), strong client relationships and experience with federal/local/regional agencies.
    • Knowledge of California policies, programs, regulations, and local technical issues and conditions.
    • Strong project management and/or design management skills
    • Experience communicating and working with local, state, and federal agency staff.
    • Geographically located within California or willingness to relocate.
    • Must have a good driving record and valid driver's license.
    Education and Experience
    • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering. MS preferred.
    • Professional Engineer in California
    • At least 20 years of relevant experience in the following:
      • Federal (Public) planning, design, and construction processes and requirements.
      • Execution of complex flood risk management, infrastructure, and management projects with involvement of federal, state, and local agencies.
      • Familiarity with preparing plans and specifications for flood risk management, infrastructure, and facilities projects.
    Typical office environment working with computers and working at a desk for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
