    The College of Health Profession offers undergraduate, professional and graduate degrees in nine departments: Gerontology, Health Administration, Medical Laboratory Sciences, Nurse Anesthesia, Occupational Therapy, Patient Counseling, Physical Therapy, Radiation Sciences, and Rehabilitation Counseling.

    The College is an international leader in the education of outstanding health professionals, researchers, and leaders with top-10 programs in nurse anesthesia, health administration, and rehabilitation counseling.

    The Opportunity


    Virginia Commonwealth University seeks a visionary and transformational leader to be its next Dean of the College of Health Professions (College).

    Reporting to the Senior Vice President for Health Sciences and CEO of the VCU Health System, the Dean is the Chief Academic Officer and Chief Executive Officer of the College charged with overseeing all departments and is responsible for planning, stewardship, management and accountability of capital, human, fiscal and other critical resources.


    The College seeks an experienced leader who is culturally competent and deeply committed to creating an environment of trust, integrity and accountability while fostering a climate for learning and development of self and others.

    The role is expected to create a collaborative environment among all the academic units of the College and strengthen the College's relationship with its peer schools and VCU as a whole.

    The leader also plays a pivotal role providing leadership that will advance a diverse and inclusive institutional culture, promote and enhance academic programming and educational innovations, strategically grow research and scholarship, develop and strengthen critical external partnerships, and for fundraising efforts.

    Minimum Hiring Standards


    • Earned doctoral or terminal professional degree in a health-related discipline and an academic record meriting a full professorial appointment.
    • Significant record as a scholar, academic administrator, leader, and manager with considerable organizational and financial skills.
    • Demonstrated ability to attract talent, empower colleagues, build teams, and promote growth.
    • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively to a wide array of audiences with a collaborative leadership style.
    • Scholarly achievement of national recognition and a broad understanding of complex issues related to health professions in today's healthcare environment.
    • A compelling vision for the future of health professions research and education that engages faculty, staff, students, partners, and donors.
    • Demonstrated experience guiding organizational change and growth, including advancing research and scholarship within an academic organization.
    • Demonstrated excellence in teaching and actively advancing innovative pedagogical practices, with experience in fostering interprofessional education.
    • Strong commitment to diversity and inclusion, including a history of success in working with diverse communities, building a diverse faculty and student body, and training exceptionally culturally competent health professionals.

    The salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.
