    SWM is hiring three (3) hardworking, team oriented, reliable, punctual, enthusiastic, applicants to assist the Noxious Weed team's efforts to control noxious weeds in compliance with all applicable State and Federal laws.


    If you are hardworking, team oriented, reliable, punctual, and enthusiastic, this seasonal work is a great opportunity You will be assigned to work on a crew performing a variety of duties involved in noxious weed control including the use of herbicides, weeds eaters and mowers.


    This job is ideal for anyone looking for an opportunity to see all that Snohomish County has to offer while also assisting in protecting our native ecosystem from the spread of noxious weeds.

    You will primarily work in an outdoor environment with exposure to all types of weather and terrain, varying degrees of traffic, and occasional contact with citizens.

    In this role you will be working near traffic and around chemicals and equipment.


    You will enjoy three-day weekends as the required working hours are from 6:30 am to 5:00 pm Monday through Thursday.

    Once hired you may request to schedule unpaid time off, as needed and subject to approval. This seasonal position will end on or before 10/27/2024.


    Punctuality is important to your success in this role and you will be expected to be on time and ready for work each day.

    A valid State of Washington Driver's License is required for this position.

    Eligibility Register - This job posting is to create an eligibility register to fill future Seasonal Noxious Weed Control Technician I positions within the next 6 months.

    Applicants will be placed on an Eligibility Register and hired by date order of application received. The Eligibility Register will expire on 10/27/2024.

    Conditional Offer


    Applicants who meet minimum qualification will be emailed a Conditional Offer Notice with instructions on how to move forward in the hiring process.

    The conditions of the offer will include instructions and deadlines on these required steps. Deadlines are strictly enforced.

    Washington State Department of Licensing Driver's Abstract:

    • Applicants will be emailed instructions on how to acquire and submit a current driver's abstract.

    Criminal Background Check:

    • Applicants will be emailed a link to complete and consent to an online background check.

    About Surface Water Management

    SWM is a stormwater utility that provides services to unincorporated Snohomish County. These services are funded by service charges paid by property owners in the unincorporated county.

    SWM is the largest division in Snohomish County's Department of Conservation and Natural Resources with an annual budget of $54.6 million.

    SWM works in partnership with other local and regional agencies to improve Snohomish County now and for future generations.

    SWM provides a variety of programs and services for reducing road and property flooding and preserving and improving the health of Snohomish County's water resources and natural systems.

    • Clean water in rivers, streams and lakes;

    STATEMENT OF ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES

    • Applies herbicides in project areas which include, but are not limited to; roadsides, river corridors, estuaries, public and private property; uses all tools available for noxious weed control as required.
    • Maintains complete and accurate written and electronic records and prepares required reports.
    • Identifies locations using a Global Position System (GPS).
    • Maintains mechanical vegetation control and herbicide application equipment and other related equipment as necessary.
    • Establishes the ownership of the property; assists in notifying property owners in person and by mail that noxious weeds are growing on their property and that it is their responsibility to prevent seed dispersal; sends pictures to help identify the plant and how to control the specific noxious weed; may provide technical assistance in the control if the owner requests help; maintains a file for each owner contacted.
    • Will drive light-duty County vehicles.
    • May supervise control crews when an aquatic license is necessary.
    • Staffs educational booth at various events and helps to construct educational displays.
    • Performs related duties as required.

    High School Diploma or GED or any equivalent combination of training and/or experience that provides the required knowledge and abilities.

    SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
    A valid Washington State Driver's license is required for employment. Applicants will be required to submit a complete three (3) year abstract driving record. A job offer will be conditioned on satisfactory results of drivers abstract.

    A valid First Aid card within sixty (60) days of employment is required.

    Washington Public Operator's Pesticide License with aquatic endorsement within sixty (60) days of employment is required.


    KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES

    Knowledge of:
    * aquatic and terrestrial weed control
    * methods and materials used in the control of noxious weeds
    * potential hazards associated with the work
    * safety rules and regulations
    * environmental issues associated with the control of noxious weeds

    • Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook

    Ability to:
    * identify noxious weeds and distinguish them from other plants
    * read, understand and enforce safety rules and regulations
    * deal tactfully and courteously with the general public
    * drive a pickup or other light vehicle in a safe and courteous manner
    * maintain complete and accurate written records and prepare required reports
    * communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
    * use a Global Position System (GPS) mapping
    * ability to lift and carry objects weighing in up to 50 lbs


    PHYSICAL EFFORT

    The majority of the job involves strenuous field work with strenuous physical exertion such as lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 50 pounds.

    Control work requires walking long distances on roadsides, marshes and rivers. Handling and using backpack sprayers, weed eaters, mowers, and all other control equipment is required.


    SUPERVISON
    The employee reports to either the Noxious Weed Coordinator or the Lead Control Technician. Seasonal control technicians with proper public operator license endorsements may act as lead over other crew members.


    WORKING CONDITIONS

    The work is performed outdoors in all types of weather and all types of terrain, including working in standing water, rivers, shallow saltwater bays, lagoons, and mudflats.

    The employee is exposed to a variety of potential hazards associated with working near traffic and around chemicals and equipment.

    Employees may be required to work occasional evenings, weekends or holidays. The use of personal protective equipment maybe required.
