    SUMMARY:

    Perform manual work of a skilled nature under direct supervision of a foreman in the construction, operation, and maintenance of the waterworks and sanitary sewer utilities installations.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Lay bricks and finished concrete in the construction or repair of manholes, where a moderately high degree of finished work is required.
    • Lay water pipe, prepare the proper hole for bell joints, make leaks joints, fit sleeves, cut and thread pipe for connection.
    • Shore and brace trenches in sewer construction, lay and make joints in sewer pipes.
    • Operate backhoe, sewer rodders, air compressor, jackhammer and other related equipment, under supervision of foreman.
    • Perform preventative maintenance on the equipment used in everyday work.
    • Operate, maintain, and install water and sewer taps and connections.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

    QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS:

    EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
    • High School Diploma or Acceptable Equivalent (i.e. GED)
    LANGUAGE SKILLS:
    • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
    MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
    • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations (i.e. addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division).
    • Knowledge and application of units of measure.
    REASONING ABILITY:
    • Ability to apply basic logic or reason in routine and non-routine functions of operation, maintenance and construction of the waterworks and sanitary sewer utilities installations.
    CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, AND REGISTRATIONS:
    • Valid C.D.L. from the State of Mississippi.
