    DESCRIPTION

    Records and processes documents and records pertaining to civil and criminal actions filed in the Richmond County Clerk of Superior, State, and Juvenile Court.
    PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
    • Performs data entry in specialized program applications: scans, indexes and records court case information and/or legal documents; audits and reviews data for accuracy; and maintains accurate records and filing systems.
    • Receives funds collected into the court, including funds collected from fees, fines, restitutions, garnishments, returned checks and other actions.
    • Prepares case files for each case; assigns case numbers; records court dates, docket information, and other pertinent data on files; updates files as needed. Retrieves case files in preparation for court; organizes files in the appropriate sequence; arranges documents in files accordingly; and forwards to the court.
    • Dockets various actions filed in the court, reviews documents for complete information; receives for filing, enters data into departmental computer, posts to appropriate docket, forwards copies of documents to involved parties; and processes for further action.
    • Provides information to departmental personnel, attorneys, and the general public; confers with supervisors and judicial personnel in the interpretation of law; utilizes various books, manuals, and other publication in the performance of assigned duties.
    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

    Education: High school diploma or G.E.D. {Please note: Upon job offer, you will be required to provide proof of education. Be sure to have the appropriate documents readily available.}

    Experience: Two (2) years of experience in the areas of administrative legal assistance, clerical, court support, or related field.

    Preferred (in addition to the minimum requirements): Associate's degree.

    Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
    • Demonstrated ability to independently perform a full range of municipal code enforcement and compliance duties.
    • Read, understand, interpret, apply, and explain applicable codes, ordinances, regulations, policies, and procedures related to assigned area.
    • Inspect and identify violations of applicable codes and ordinances.
    • Enforce pertinent codes, ordinances, laws, and regulations with impartiality and efficiency.
    • Respond to inquiries, complaints, and requests for service in a timely and tactful manner.
    • Work in potentially confrontational settings and use accepted and appropriate techniques to ensure safety.
    • Considerable knowledge of county codes, legal processes, construction or trade codes, zoning, and other related codes.
    • Familiarity with geography of Augusta-Richmond County.
    • Proficiency in tracing ownership of buildings and/or land, performing inspections and extensive investigative work related to all ordinances and codes, reading maps, charts, and computerized databases.
    • Mastery of operating computer and standard office equipment Microsoft Office Suite.
    • Good communication skills, both oral and written, with the ability to speak at public meetings when necessary.

    Licensing: Must possess and maintain affirmation as a sworn Deputy Clerk of the Court according to area of assignment.

    • Math: Requires the ability to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. May include counting, recording of counts, and basic measuring.
    • Functional Reasoning: Requires the ability to apply principles of rational systems; to interpret instructions furnished in written, oral, diagrammatic, or schedule form; and to exercise independent judgment to adopt or modify methods and standards to meet variations in assigned objectives.
    • Situational Reasoning: Requires the ability to exercise judgment, decisiveness and creativity in situations involving evaluation of information against measurable or verifiable criteria.
    • Physical Abilities: Tasks require the ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work, but which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of light weight (5-10 pounds). Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or work station.
    • Sensory Requirements: Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate colors or shades of colors, sounds and visual cues or signals. Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.
    • Environmental Factors: Essential functions are regularly performed without exposure to adverse environmental conditions.
