    Description

    Literacy Interventionist (6-8)

    Literacy Intervention Teacher at Cyrus Peirce Middle School

    Qualifications:
    Current MA licensure:
    Reading Specialist (5-8) or English-Language Arts (5-8)
    Reading Specialist licensure preferred.
    (If not licensed as a Reading Specialist, the candidate should be actively working
    towards reading licensure or have plans to do so.)
    Bachelor's Degree; Master's Degree in Education preferred
    Proficient technology skills
    Strong leadership and collaboration skills
    Strong instructional skills
    Purpose: The literacy interventionist is responsible for working with general education students
    identified as needing intervention services in the areas of reading and/or writing. The teacher will
    identify the specific areas of deficiency and prescribe/implement the appropriate intervention
    strategies to support the needs of students who struggle with basic literacy skills at the middle
    school level with the goal to help students accelerate to grade level literacy skills.
    Job Functions:
    ● Coordinate and facilitate the school's general education literacy intervention program.
    ● Collaborate with teachers individually to identify the literacy needs of students, to set
    learning goals and targets, and to problem solve with teachers to develop best practices
    for continuous academic growth of students in literacy.
    ● Assist teachers with the collection of data, analysis of data results and supports the
    sharing of findings with all staff.
    ● Review student achievement and assist with placing students in appropriate general
    education reading and writing intervention services.
    ● Teach targeted literacy intervention to small groups of students using research-based
    strategies and resources.
    ● Serve as an active and integral member of the Child Study Team.
    ● Assist students using software and materials related to literacy programs.
    ● Attend professional development to enhance knowledge of pedagogy and content,
    especially literacy.
    ● Perform other duties and responsibilities related to literacy as assigned by supervisor.
